Can I give away (or sell) Hoppers I purchased with Free Dining?

Hi. I made a reservation during free dining. We already have tickets and Disney has told me they expire Dec 2017 and that I can't even give them to my niece or nephew. If the tickets are not assigned to any "My Disney Experience Account" (other than the purchasers - the tickets are for my kids), how would they even know. (ok....that sounds sketchy but I'm just trying to figure out what to do).

Thanks, Amy

I wasn't aware that multi-day tickets had expiration dates yet. I would call back and double check. Single day tickets have expiration dates now, but I think that's it.

I'll take em! Seriously, I will. But, only after you call back, email guest services, etc. Why should they care if you've paid for them? Good luck to you!

Usually tickets bought in a package are assigned to the every person in the party. You can't re-assign the tickets (at least that has been my experience). I have tickets I bought separately in MDE and I can move them around to people (under the ticket it says Re-ASSIGN) but any package ticket shows in MDE with a name that can't be changed.

Technically Disney won't know who uses the ticket. So a nephew could use the ticket if the person they are assigned to aren't with you and they use that magic band to enter the park or if you get the ticket transferred to a card. Now I believe someone with a ticket to their name can't enter followed by a second ticket assigned in their name.. but I could be wrong.

I would double check the expatriation of the tickets. You see a lot of people that have AP's do the FD discount and use the tickets at a later date. I thought they were good for like 10 years. Even the sigle tickets I bought don't expire until like 2025.

Your tickets will already be assigned to those of you that you put on the reservation, they are non-transferrable.
Since you needed to purchase the hopper tickets in order to take advantage of the free dining package I think you are pretty much stuck with them.

Are you trying to give the tickets you already have to your nieces and nephews or are you trying to give the ones you got with the free dining package to them?

I got free dining a few years ago even though we were AP holders. When I got to WDW I had guest services remove the tickets from my package and was given new separate tickets that were not assigned to anyone. I gave the tickets to my niece and nephew for Christmas.

This was pre Magicbands and MDE, so not sure if it would work now.

Edited to add...I was totally honest with guest services about what I was doing, and they said it was fine because no one had entered the park with those tickets yet.

I'm trying to give away the tickets that are with the free dining package. I'd like my kids to use the other tickets (which are also not transferable, but have the water parks option). I could just forgo dining and get a TIW card which was my initial impluse until I saw that free dining was available. It makes sense if I can transfer or otherwise use the tickets but it's sounding like we may not be able to.

I'm under the impression that package tickets can be transferred but not until after the package starts (aka check-in)...until then they show as non-transferable in MDE. I can tell you for sure at the end of July if no ticketing gurus chime in before then - I've got an AP & 2 day tickets I had to buy for the Awaken Summer promo that I'm planning to reassign to avoid any possible priority issues.

We did this a while back. After check-in, I had them remove the ticket from my son's magic band (he changed his mind and didn't come that trip). I did it at the resort concierge, and they gave me a plastic card ticket that I later used on another trip for him. It at that point could have been given to someone else.

We have AP's, and are doing free dining in August. I bought two day park hoppers, so will do this again when we check in. We're going to save the tickets for a trip next year (hopefully).

But tickets aren't "on" a MagicBand. They are in an MDE profile. So that ticket entitlement, whether you have a band or card, is still in his profile. You should be able to reassign it to someone else, but just handing them the card doesn't change that it is linked to your son's profile in MDE.

We did not use our tickets from our free dining package last year. I had the ability to reassign them right after we checked in.

I can't see how this would be legitimate. Extreme example, "Hi, I'm Larry. This is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl."

Some names are just common. Sometimes two cousins have the same names, sometimes in-laws do.

If two tickets are assigned to me, Jane Smith, I cannot enter on one ticket, and let my sister use my second Jane Smith ticket the same day. You can't use two ticket entitlements in the same day.

No you're right, I just handed them his band and had them get me the hard copy of his ticket so that I could do what I wanted with it.

That's what I'll do next trip, since my DD and I don't need the tickets. I'll have them give me the plastic card tickets so that we're not using them to go to the parks since we have AP's.

That way I can use them later or let someone else use them (like my DH if we go without the kids).

We've had AP's in the past and bought two day tickets to take advantage of free dining several times. I've always gone to guest services and removed those tickets from MDE before entering the park. The tickets are now on plastic tickets. I will link them back up when I'm ready or they can be given to someone else.

The last time I did this was last August. I'm not sure if anything has changed since then.

I was able to reassign the ticket I had to buy with free dining. I couldn't reassign the ticket until it became active on check in day, though. I assigned it to one of the people in my profile who was not going on the trip. When my AP expires then I can reassign that ticket back to myself.

@hiroMYhero or another ticket expert, is what these folks are talking about possible? When they are given the hard ticket, is it removed from the original person's MDE profile? My understanding is that the hard ticket is no different from a MagicBand, and the ticket entitlement is still linked to the original guest's profile. Yes, it can be reassigned, but handing the ticket to someone else will not accomplish that without going into MDE to do the reassignment. Is this incorrect? Thanks!

The hard ticket can be sold or given to anyone.
When that ticket is used for the first time to enter a park, the finger of the guest using that ticket will have his finger-scan automatically associated with that ticket, and will THEN become the official "owner" for the life of that ticket.

They will be removing the digital ticket entitlements from their MDE and placing them on a hard, plastic ticket that was never linked to their MDE. This ticket can be sold or given to someone to link to another MDE.

If the hard, plastic ticket were linked to the original owner's MDE, it could not be sold or given away because hard tickets remain where they are initially linked, just as MBs are linked and not transferable.
