We have a Calvary Baptist Church in town, and they have a message board out front, and every few weeks it changes, most times I know the meaning.

Like, "Little Sins, they grow up fast"

The one they have out now, I don't understand what they are saying, because I know the Catholic controversy on the book. It says:

"The DaVinci Code unlocked, can we trust the Gospels"

:confused3

The book is fiction, and has never claimed to be anything else. At least I am not aware if they have.

Is this message for or against the DaVinci code???

Perhaps it's just an ad for the local cinema ;)

Our church has used the DaVinci Code controversy as an opportunity to sponsor discussions about the history of the texts, etc. Very objective and fascinating stuff. (Like that "Judas" gospel was found many years ago and has been discussed in religious studies course for years - funny how it was spun in the press as a "newly found" thing). Perhaps that's what the message is getting at.

I'm not sure if this board is showing the title for the week's sermon, or just a note. Either way, here's my thoughts on what it means.

If it's the title of the sermon, the minister is probably going to explain where the DaVinci Code says the gospels are in error, and he's going to point out reasons why they believe the gospels are the correct documentation, not the other sources used in the DaVinci Code.

If it's just a message, then it's probably to call attention to the fact that if you believe the DaVinci Code is stating the truth, then you believe the gospels are in error.

Even though the DaVinci Code is fiction, many people have written non-fiction books based on the same theories. Hope this helps explain.

I'm sure it is against the DaVinci Code. Yes, the book is fiction and claims only to be fiction, but it leads one to believe that the basic story about Jesus is true. Just as Titanic was a fictional movie wrapped around a real event, the Da Vinci Code seems to be a fictional story of adventure wrapped around a true story of Jesus. It is really scary in that it has the potential to make a lot of people believe this mess.

Faith in the validity of the Gospels has always been an issue. I've heard many sermons on why we can believe what we read in the Bible.

So if I were to guess what the sign meant.....I would say that this movie may have sparked discussions along this vein in the general population, so maybe the pastor will be speaking on that topic, believing that the Gospels are the inspired word of God....just using the movie as a platform for that subject.

I take as a lure to get people inside to talk about the "hot" topic. Certainly this book raises questions, and with the movie the ideas will get even more exposure.

Now whether the "Davinci Code" itself is true, who knows? I certainly believe Dan Brown's book is complete fiction.

To me this is like King Arthur and the Holy Grail.
