Can I get a little Technical Support?

I have a weird problem. Our PC (Dell/Vista) has multiple user accounts so every member of the family can have their own desktop and stuff. When I'm logged into Windows on my account, I can play VMK just fine. But when my kids log in on their accounts they get past the login screen and just get the BSOD instead of the VMK loading screen.

I've been through about everything I can think of to fix it. Any ideas?

Have their accounts ever been on VMK? It may just be taking longer to load for the first time on their accounts. Have you tried just waiting for a while when it looks like BSOD. When I signed a computer on to VMK for the first time (on that computer, not my first time) back in January, it seemed like I had BSOD for forever. I finally pulled out something else to do and just left the computer sit and it finally loaded. I don't know how long it took, but it was WAY longer than I was used to when on the computer I normally used. That's all I can think to suggest for right now, I hope you can get it to work soon.

Well, it did work on my oldest daughter's Windows account. She went a month or two without playing it though. Maybe there was a game update that is taking a while to load. They should put that behind the loading screen so at least you know it's doing something.

We're going out to dinner so I'm going to give your suggestion a shot. We'll see what happened when we get back.

Hey Krazy,

Long time, no time. Hope all is well.

Have you tried to sign in to YOUR character from your kids' Windows' area? Or THEIR character from your Windows' area?

Could help troubleshoot where the problem is since you know you can sign in ok to yours from yours. (I swear that makes sense if you read it again ).

Since you have the system broken down to seperate accounts, each account has its own module for shockwave. have the kids log into their account and visit this link http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/default.html. This will trigger the installation of shockwave for each account, thus installing the required module for each account.

If this don't work post what happened and there is one more step we can take.

Dizanimator, waiting it out didn't work.

Dreams, I cannot log in my VMK account when I am logged into my daughter's Windows account. I can log into their VMK account when I am logged into my windows accounts. So everything is fine when I am logged into Windows under my name. Could it have something to do with the fact their user accounts aren't admins on the system? I mean, it shouldn't but I haven't tested that.

DaffyPluto, You may have uncovered a clue. The link you sent me did not install the update. The Shockwave loader flashed quickly then, nothing. I used the standalone file to update Shockwave but it didn't fix the problem.

I really appreciate all the help. My kids have been bugging me for a couple of weeks to fix this. I put it off because I figured it was in our filtering software (Live OneCare). I've isolated that though so I know it's not the problem.

Any other suggestions?

You posted while I was typing out my response to the previous posts. I felt that you were important enough for an edit. Perhaps I should have given you your own post?

This is going on the assumption that each of your kids does not have administrator rights. That is usually required to run any .exe program such as an install.

So try this

On your account;
Go to the control panel and then users and change each account to have administrator rights temporarily

now one at a time log onto their accounts and install the shockwave player. Then run VMK one time before you install the player on the next account

Log back into your account and give them user level rights again.

Now let them try to go on vmk on their accounts. If this works then it was in the rights that they were given when you created the account.

Lets try this then we shall start talking about advanced methods that may take some time to get across on this board

I was mistaken. My youngest (5yo) has a limited account. But my oldest was set up as an admin. So I guess that's not it. I was on the older one's account when I did the standalone install for the Shockwave player earlier.

remove shockwave and flash from the adobe site. You MUST use the adobe removal instructions or it will not work.

Then reinstall Shockwave and then Flash and you should be all set (to wait it out lol)

I didn't want to leave this unresolved... My solution? Use Firefox. VMK works fine on my kid's Windows accounts as long as they use Firefox and not IE.

I had a problem with Shockwave when I got the computer. I had a Dell tech fix it remotely but it took him about two hours. I'm not going through that again.

I an on a Dell and I use a seperate user account. I run out of memory real quick and have to go all the way back to the start screen to reload memory. If I have been visiting several different sites before going to vmk it sometimes wont load for me. I ususally have to go back to start and get more memory.
