I get a new boss every year....we elect 6 new board members and they appoint a "commodore" for a year. I've had five commodores in the last 4 years--and this one has been a total jerk!

For the past 4 years, my club has closed the last two weeks of December and re-opened for New Year's eve. This is when club staff takes vacation. Last year, a bunch of us took a cruise. This year, I booked my flight to Orlando in February when I got good rates, my daughter and grandson have booked their flights, we have a rental car reserved and I've already paid off our accommodations.

Today, I found out that they (the board) has decided closing the last two weeks in December is too long, and they're going to stay open longer in the event someone MIGHT want to book a party.
When I told my boss I already had airline tickets, and the chef was planning to be out of town that time, the pompass jerk tells me "This has been in the works for a while. We'll have to talk about it". (Of course, this is the first I've heard about it).

Talk about non-refundable tickets??? My daughter and grandson will lose their tickets, too, because she won't go without me.

And what gets me, his tenure will be over the first of December and he won't even be around but will have messed everything up for everyone.

I could just scream!!!

You have one of those jerk bosses too? I thought I was the only one cursed with one of those. I will pray that your stupid boss has a heart and will try to help you out here. I would make sure that you let him know that you were never informed of this change and so you booked your trip thinking things would be as they usually are. I really hope it all works out for you, that would make me very upset.

I hope so, too. What really upsets me is that this was something special for my daughter -- she has Crohn's disease and just spend 7 weeks in the hospital and had surgery, and is going through a divorce, so this was to be a treat for her and my grandson.

Oh, well, I'm going to look at this as a bump in the road and count on Disney magic to make everything work out all right.

Here is a bunch of Magic Pixie Dust to help your trip happen!!

I feel for you as I have one of those bosses also. I booked my hotel in April when the 20.03 rate came out at the CbM in DD, I've email him three times since April telling him when I wanted to take my vacation this year, received nothing back - I finally asked him in July about the end of September for my vacation and his response was "I don't plan that far in advance." I then said "well, the dates are kind of already set" and his response was "I'm not saying yes and I'm not saying no, I don't plan that far in advance."

Now it's 50 days until my trip, I have prepaid for more hotels and am buying my US/IOA and Seaworld passes next week and still have not gotten an ok. I work in a small office, there is only three of us, two attorneys and me so when I'm not here the boss panics, he's too cheap to hire a temp when I'm on vacation. I hardly ever get to take ALL my alotted vacation time each year and I haven't had a sick day in three years.

Crossing my fingers that everything works out for the both of us!!!

Here's a little pixie dust for you and me (sprinkle) (sprinkle) (sprinkle). Hopefully it will work out for us both. After this year, I need a little Disney magic!

AMEN!!

First, lots of pixie dust to everyone. We all should be able to go to Disney.

If you have vacation time earned, within in reason your boss has to let you take it. If they don't (within reason), then I'd report it to the state Labor Board. Of course, you have to try to reasonably work out vacation time. This is really for a case where you lose vacation time each year because they won't let you have it.

I think all of our bosses should go to Disney and experience the magic and they would understand what makes our trips so important!:D
