Can I drop days from an existing reservation?

I feel like I should know the answer to this.

My nephew is my Disney nut, and he and I go together, just us, once a year. I'm planning our 2011 trip for March, as he has spring break from 3/11/11 - 3/20/11 (Friday, plus the whole next week). With Easter not being until April 24th next year, I'm HOPING the crowds won't be unbearable if we go for 7 nights when he's out in March.

Now it seems he MIGHT be changing schools next year. The other school is only out on 3/17 & 3/18/11, so we couldn't stay for 7 nights.

If I go ahead and make my reservation at 11 months (which is just a few days from now) for 7 nights, and he does change schools, can I drop a few days off the reseervation? Or do I have to cancel it and restart a new one? I won't know for sure which school until probably late Aug, at which time we'll be into the 7 month window, so availability might be less.

You can add or drop days from the reservation as long as the days are not in the middle of the reservation. Such as drop the first 4 days or add 2 days to the end of the reservation without canceling.

If you cancel days 30 days or less before a reservation starts, the points will go into a holding account and can only be used for reservations within the last 60 days of your use year.

I thought that was they had to be used within 60 days of the new reservation (and before the end of the use year since you can't bank them).

I think you are correct. My understanding of points in holding is that they must be used within 60 days of making the reservation and before the end of the use year.

The points are only good for reservations made 60 days or less from check in date but you can travel at any point in the UY.

For example, we have a June UY. If I cancelled my August trip less than 30 days out, I would be able to use those holding points for a November trip, as long as I booked it after September. I would not be restricted to only April/May trips.

Thanks, that's great! I would probably just drop days off at the beginning, so that would work. And since we aren't going until March 2011, and I'll know which school he's going to by Aug or Sept 2010, I can change well before 30 days out.
