Where I live unless you really do something wrong or make the cop very mad you will just get a warning and tell you to get another one fast...i have never heard of a cop giving someone a ticket for that while they were ON THEIR WAY to get it replaced.They can pull your pic up and see if it is you.

We have a plastic laminated card which takes our SOS office time to prepare. We get an official paper document that we can carry while we're waiting for the reissue to arrive in the mail. It simply makes more fiscal sense that they process those cards batch-style in one location with all the others that evening rather than having the expense of maintaining equipment at every branch to create the cards.

When I lived in Michigan (about 24 years ago) they would snip the corner off the old DL and attach a document to it until the DL came in the mail. In SC and now in GA for the past 20 some years we have been getting our DLs made as we wait-plastic laminated. It's just a digital photograph and lamination device.
