I have a universal trip planned this year in october for the kids to see harry potter but I am sure we will be back at Disney next year, can we drive over and look around the new cars resort and see if that is where we want to stay? Or do they only let in resort guest only.

Not a problem at all to do this. One of my favorite things to do at WDW is explore other resorts. The Security Guard at the front will, or should, ask to see your photo id and that's it. Enjoy!

Try out the food court while you're there! We're staying at the resort right now and everything is so good!

You'll be going at the perfect time too, b/c all of the wings will be open for you to see.
