ok - i know i am speculating here, but IF they offer free dining again next year we are seriously thinking about going.

We went this past Aug and did the following:

We had AP's that were to expire in mid Sept. We booked the package (10 nights) including the free dining and in order to qualify for the free dining we each (4 of us) bought a one day one park pass. We did not use these passes as we used our APs.

I know that i can use those unused one day one park tickets at any time in the future. (even though i did not buy the non expire option - since i never activated the one day tickets, they will not expire.)

Any way.....if they offer free dining next year and i book a package again, could i once again purchase one day one park passes for each of us and then once i am onsite upgrade to APs (and here is the big question....) and use the credit from both the non used tickets from Aug 2006 AND the credit from the one day one park tickets from that current trip towards the purchase of the APs?

I am thinking not. (that they will not allow me to credit more than one ticket per AP)

I am just thinking strategy here. Trying to get the most vacation bang for my thin bucks. (not cheating the system, but untilizing it to it's maximum potential.)

I checked and they will only let you upgrade once. Sorry (for me too)!

As the others have said you can only apply one ticket to an upgrade or purchase of a new ticket. There was a thread going for a while that was all about everyones experiences trying to put the one day tickets toward AP's during this years free dining promotion. I was able to do it but it took a while with several different ticket booths & guest relations. Other people were told they couldn't do it until the last day of their stay after checkout. Which is what I was initially told. Since my AP was expiring on the second day of my visit I was glad when guest relations was able to take care of it for me. They did mark my room key void & were going to keep it until I told them it was my room key & I needed it to get into my room as well as make use of my dining plan credits. SOme others asked to have the ticket put on a separate card from their room keys when they checked in. I wish I had heard that before I went because I would have done the same. Keep in mind that Disney may change the rules for the free dining promotion if they offer it again next year. They may force you to purchase a ticket for the entire length of your stay which is within their rights to do.

Having just got back from Free Dining, I'm going to have a hard time passing it up if it is offered again...but having to purchase park tickets for the length of stay might make me re-think it. Free Dining ROCKS!! (And I was surprised at the amount of people that hadn't heard of it!)

We (family of 4, Myself, DH, DS 12and DD 9) went last year for free dining when we had AP. We kept our room key with the one day on it. When we went back for free dining this August we took last years cards, and the new 1 day cards we had just got to the window at the entrance to MK, we were allowed to apply two one day tickets for each persons 10 park hopper.

Price before using cards = about $1070
Price after using one day = about $545

sorry I don't remember the exact amounts but we were very happy that it worked. She just ran up the total, then scanned all of our cards and we were very happy to here the new total. We were also prepared for it to not work though.

I think it depends on the CM working. When we went we got 4-1 day passes. My DH and I had annual passes but the kids did not. We got to the window and said we wanted to upgrade the passes to AP's. I asked if we could also use the 1 day passes me and DH had. He said sure. On top of that we got $100 off each pass because we own DVC. So we ended up getting about a $230. credit towards each pass. I think we ended up getting 2 AP's for about $350. Pretty good deal, but I think we got lucky! LOL
