Can I do this if I find someone to transfer points?

I have a reserved SS standard view using banked and borrowed points. I was thinking that if I could find a transfer of points to either reserve a preferred view (if it is worth the points) or move to another resort we have not been to, how does that work? Does it have to be the same use year? I am just a little confused on the points transfer. Thanks!!

-- You can do one transfer in or out but not both per use year

-- The points can be from any use year month, e.g., if you have Feb use year, you can get June use year transferred points

-- The transferred points retain there original resort identity. Thus, they can be used to reserve at 11-months out only for the resort to which they belong.

-- The transferred points also retain their original use year, e.g., if you have a Feb use year and you get June use year points, those retain the June use year.

-- Transferred points can be banked but not borrowed. Consider this example, You have a Feb use year and get Dec 2023 points transferred into your account. If you wanted to use them for a Sep 2023 trip along with your Feb 2023 points you cannot, because you would have to borrow the Dec 2023 points do so and that is not allowed for Transferred points. In other words, the earliest trip for which your Feb 2023 and the transferred Dec 2023 points could be used is one in Dec 2023. But the points can be combined to make one reservation as long as the reservation is after the beginning of the use year of the transferred points.

I will add that at Saratoga Standard and preferred are resort locations, not views. Many standard units have lovely views, and some preferred units have stank views.
We have not been to SS since they changed the structure on the locations. Am I to assume that the preferred views are closest to the Springs?

Again, they aren't views, they're locations, but you're right. The Congress Park "neighborhood" is preferred because it's closest to DS. The Springs "neighborhood" is preferred because it's closest to the Carriage House (main building) and to the High Rock Springs feature pool. The other standard "neighborhoods" Grandstand, Carousel and Paddock are farther from DS, but the Grandstand is almost as close to the Carriage House as The Springs is. See this map.

Ok, I think I understand! It is confusing. So for my current situation...we have 223 points, use year December and we reserved SS standard by using current and borrowed 2023 points. We would like to move to another resort and need more points. Most have a waitlist. So from your bullet points, do I need to find someone to transfer points to us from the resort we would like to stay rather than a SS owner? or it doesn't matter?

Congress Park and The Springs sections are preferred. Those were the most requested prior to the change as one is close to the Carriage House and the other closer to Disney Springs.

You want points that are valid for your trip and since you will be using your SSR points as well, you’d be booking at 7 months at the other resorts so I do t think it matters what resort you get.

If you get SSR, you know you can upgrade your current room with those points prior to 7 months.

When are you traveling? That is key to making sure you get valid points

We are reserved for May 6-13 at SS standard. I know I can purchase 24 points through Disney direct but everything is waitlisted so I don't think going that route. We just wanted to try and waitlist at a different resort but are in need of more points as well.

So, with travel in May 2023, you just want to be sure any points you get are valid for that trip without needing to borrow them.

For example, you can’t get June to Dec 2023 points as those won’t work

. But Sept, Oct and Dec 2022 would be fine as well as Feb March or April 2023. points.

In terms of OTU..you could buy them for any date that is after December 1st that is available , and then cancel that date.

It would put the points in your account for a wait list.

Another example. Say you see A date in a Feb 2023 available for close to that 24 points you want. You call MS. Buy OtU for that night and have them book it. Then you go online and cancel it out. Those points are now there for you to use online for a waitlist or even booking something else!
