hi everyone...
so we're heading to DL in may...getting there the night of 5/2. DH is a VW fanatic, so he'll be heading to the Bug-In in Fontana on sunday, 5/3. the girls and i could go with him...but i'd rather not be there all day looking at cars and watching races. so rather than being stuck in hotel room all day, i was thinking of braving DL by myself with DD2 and DD1. is it do-able? i was thinking of doing some rides in fantasyland. while waiting in line for rides, DD2 would be in her harness, and i'd have DD1 in some kind of front carrier (any suggestions?).

i wouldn't do the whole day at DL...maybe just a few hours then head back to the hotel for lunch and a nap. DH should be back by 6pm, but i probably wouldn't head back into the park after the girls' afternoon nap. if DH isn't too tired from his day at the Bug-In, i may be able to talk him into going back into the park.

thoughts? i'm sure there are many of you who have braved DL with 2 or more children by yourself...so i would love to hear any advice you have to offer. in may, my older DD will be couple weeks shy of being 3 years old and my younger DD will be about 17 months old.

TIA!

Do you know where you are staying? I would think it would not be so bad if you were right across the steet. I would try and if it's too hard just go back.

I'm with the Previous post...

I don't have kids but have accompanied all my nieces and nephews (20 total) at different times. Doing it alone is quite tiring. But as long as you are okay with going for a few hours, and staying nearby, I think your girls would love it.

They do have a double stroller you can rent, but the girls maybe too small for it. Not sure, but its a thought.

i would bring my own double stroller and we would be right across the street at the camelot. i was just thinking of how i'd do it if we were standing in line for a ride. i would definitely need my older DD in her harness. i used my bjorn for my younger DD last october and december, but she'll be 18 months in may and may be too big for the bjorn, but i don't want to have to carry her withOUT a carrier while standing in line. i've seen a couple of side and back carriers, but was just wondering how difficult it would be do adjust baby to the front when i get on a ride.

I would go! You can manage! It sounds like your little ones are the same age apart as mine are...only mine are quite younger. When we go to WDW next dec they'll be almost 3 and 19 months and I would not hesitate to take them alone. Right now it's rough because my dd is 8 months and can't walk yet so she absolutely must be held. But my son wouldn't stand to be in a carrier when he was 18 months and so I am not sure how your daughter will take that either. I would definitely take the double stoller but not sure how to handle the 18 mo dd. Again I just cant see keeping an active 1 1/2 year old in a carrier for a lengthy period of time. Let us know how it goes though! :goodvibes

yeah, i'm kinda excited! but also worried at the same time. i'd only want to put my younger dd in a carrier when we are waiting in line for a ride cause i wouldn't want to carry her on my own. so if we're walking from one "land" to another, the girls would be in the double stroller. then if i decide to do POTC or something, i'd park the stroller, put my older dd in her harness, and my younger dd in a carrier...at least, that's the plan for now. :)

No bjorn, that's for sure. Get one that's good for your spines. So an Ergo, or a nice Mei Tai with a nice wide bottom area to really support her pelvis. And have her face you; better for your own spine (and an Ergo won't allow you to have a kid facing out when worn on front).

I'd do it. Spend the day in bug's land in DCA, riding the train, the monorail maybe (though you have to fold strollers for that just so ya know), some of fantasyland...IASW a gazillion times, see the characters... Just a nice, easy day.

Staying so close, and using a double stroller, I'd definitely go for it too. I've taken my kids from baby age on up, although never alone. But doing it just for a few hours in the morning I think would be fine. I'd get to DL before opening, hit Fantasyland while the lines are small, Small World, then maybe the train and if not too tired Bugs Land in DCA is a great idea. It's not usually very crowded over there and you can get on and off rides quickly. By then it should be around lunchtime and nap time.

hey, molly - with the ergo or mei tai, can i easily take baby out of the carrier when i get on the ride? if i have her facing me, i think i'd like for her to be facing forward sitting on my lap during the ride so that she can see everything too...

i'm getting more and more excited about the thought of sharing a morning of DL delight with my 2 girls! :)

I would be excited! :goodvibes I dont know much about the carriers molly is suggesting but I see parents use them a lot so they must be fairly easy to work with.

Just an FYI---
I LOVED my MeiTai!! It was so nice because my DD could just stay in it on most of the rides. Pics:

I would be excited! Too bad we aren't going at the same time...my son is 22 months and my daughter is 8 months so we'd have kids just about the same age I dont know much about the carriers molly is suggesting but I see parents use them a lot so they must be fairly easy to work with.

i know, that would have been cool to meet up and go together with our little ones! now i have to go surf the internet for a new carrier! getting more excited!:cool1:

They are at a great age to go it alone! Once they get big enough that one can ride, and one can't (and the bigger one knows she can ride) it gets tricky!
I did DL alone many times when mine were about that age.
Pretty much bypass any line that is over 20 minutes is my rule of thumb. My oldest could just ride the carousel all day (she's 6 now, and still will!)
Have fun!
