Can I combine direct and resale contract points for a single reservation?

We are waiting to pass ROFR on a resale with the same home resort and use year as our current contracts. The resale contact has banked 2011 points. I’ve already made reservations for summer, borrowing points from our 2013 use year.

Currently, my reservations for this summer are for studios. Once the contract closes, I would like to (pending availability) convert these to one-bedroom reservations. Can I use a combination of the (already borrowed) points from my current contract and the (banked) points from the resale contract for a single reservation?

Yes, combining points from different contracts can easily be done.

Since you are purchasing the same UY (and Home Resort) it might be worthwhile to make sure the new contract is titled exactly the same and to let Member Accounting know of the resale purchase so it can just be combined with your original membership.

If that doesn't happen, you can still combine the points for reservations though.

Enjoy! :)

If the two contracts have different membership numbers, it makes it a little more difficult, but it is possible. You could transfer the points from one to the other or you could make a few nights with one and a few nights with the other. But if the membership number is different, you cannot combine points from two different memberships for a single night without transferring.

But if the same membership, shouldn't be any problem at all.

Thank you!

In reference to the bolded, there was a form we completed early in the process, listing name order (H and I have different last names) on the original contract, contract numbers (all are the same, with extensions - XXX.0, xxx.1, xxx.2), etc., so I hope that will take care of it.

Will Disney make the resale contact another extension (xxx.4) of our contact number? Or does it retain the original contract number? I'm *really* hoping it's the former.

I agree, yes with the caveats mentioned. If you cancel your studios and reserve the 1 BR, they will use the most encumbered points (banked, borrowed) first but you should double check to make sure they do. Then you'd have the opportunity to bank any current UY points assuming you can do so before 4 months from the end of the UY. Assuming you have an August or later UY, that shouldn't pose much of a problem.

If by chance the new contract ends up under a different master for some reason (usually because it's titled differently), you will have to put some more effort into it but the end result should be the same. If that ends up being the case your best bet is to make 2 separate reservations and then link them. If you have stranded points, this is one of the areas where they often will allow a transfer of banked/borrowed points for multiple contracts of a single owner but you'll use up your 1 transfer for that UY if it matters and it's not guaranteed, it's done case by case.

I was typing as you were for my post above. It should retain it's current member number and purchase date.

If everything is titled the same and Disney is aware of all of this before the closing (make sure the resale broker and title company note it on the paperwork in addition to calling Disney yourself), the resale should have xxx.4 contract number and be all under the original membership. Otherwise, it will have its own original and unique membership number with the xxx.0 extension.

Good luck! :)
