Planning on using online check in, but exit rows are assigned at the airport the day of flight only. When I arrive at the airport to check my bags, can I change my seat to the exit row (if available) at the kiosk or do I have to wait in line for an agent?

Thanks.

I hope not. I hope that the airline does a better job than that ensuring that passengers meet the physical requirements for sitting in the exit row than self-declaration.

I was able to choose an exit row on Delta last May during advance seat assignments. A screen popped up that asked me 4 questions to see if I qualified for exit row seating........

I am just curious if I have to see an actual person with Airtran or can I use the kiosk? Someone still comes to help with my bags when I check them at the kiosk, so does anyone have any actual experience with this?

Thanks

United does the same - spits out a card if you choose exit row seating. On board, however, the FA asks very specific questions and if one does not meet the criteria (or speak English to their satisfaction) one is moved.

BTW, when I saw the question posted I was going to say 'ask Dudspizza, he seem to be the AirTran guru'. Then I saw who posed the question..... :teeth:

Most airlines will now allow you to select exit row seating electronically. However the FA's still "size up" all exit row passengers and ensure they speak English. Anyone deemed physically unable or not English fluent will be moved--and there is NO choice in the matter. I've seen people deplaned for refusing to move out of an exit row because they didn't speak English or used a cane and they argued with the FA about changing seats.

Okay, well that makes me feel better then... thanks for the update.

to make bicker feel even better - every 2 weeks or so I sit in 9a on a 757 w/United (exit row). If I don't pay FULL ATTENTION to the FA during the speech they repeat it and make me repeat back to them.

Oh yes... that's very good. I feel MUCH better! :)
