Can I change the people in my room?

I am trying to plan a cruise with my siblings. My brother and his wife would be in one room and my two sisters and I in another room. Here’s the rub...one of my sisters has a history of cancelling on things at the last minute and/or not having the money to pay for things.

If I book a room for the 3 of us and when it’s time to pay the balance she doesn’t have the money or changes her mind, am I able to modify the reservation to just be 2 people in the room? Or would that be considered a cancellation? I’m worried we’d have to “rebook” and our rate would be higher by then.

I’m going to call Disney and discuss when I have time but thought I’d see if anyone knows the answer.

You can remove a passenger from a room at any time before the final payment date with no penalty. The remaining 2 passengers would pay the same fare as at the original time of booking -- you would not need to rebook. I am fairly sure that you could apply the deposit for the cancelled person to the other 2 passengers -- if not, you would simply get a refund.

Do note, however, that the fare for a 3rd passenger is less than the fare for the first 2 passengers in a room. If you were planning to split the cost of the room equally among the 3 of you, the cost for each of the remaining 2 passengers will be greater than if there were 3 people in the room.

Do you have someone else who could take her place? I THINK you can sub one person for another without penalty, not sure but something you could ask DCL about.

Be aware that there may not be space available on the ship for additional people in your room. If the muster station is already full from other cabins you wont be able to add to your stateroom

Well, the first thing for checking how sincere she is would be to make her give you her share of the deposit BEFORE you book.

Agree with everyone else that dropping her before the pay in full date won't change the rate of the 1st two names on the reservation. (But would cause the average price you and your other sister are paying to go up.)

Also, if she is prone to not wanting to pay up money at a later time, quote her the cost of the cruise with the gratuities added in and have her pay that amount up front and prepay the gratuities so there isn't any awkward moment during the cruise if she decides that she doesn't have the money to cover the gratuities.

One thing to ensure is that everyone in your group understands the sleeping arrangements before booking the cruise. (Who is getting the bed, who is getting the couch, who is climbing up to the pull-down bunk; assuming you are not booking a Family Verandah with the murphy bed.) That might be something that would impact how you split the costs: the person with the Queen bed pays more than the person in the bunk bed, etc.

And if it was me, I'd quote a PIF date to your sister a few weeks before the actual PIF just to give yourself a little time to think through options if she backs out at the last moment, or if she asks you to pay the balance and offer to pay you back later.

One final question: Are you driving or flying to the cruise? If you are flying, you have an additional spot where you need your sister to commit to purchasing a plane ticket, or giving you the money to buy her ticket on a group reservation BEFORE you actually purchase the plane ticket.

Curious - how did you decide who gets the bed? Also, how comfortable are the sofa and murphy by comparison? I'm in a situation of sharing and I want to know what I'm in for.

The sofa and Murphy beds utilize standard twin sized mattresses. They are "real" beds.

Oh I know they're 'real' beds. I just don't know if they are nearly as comfortable as the queen bed. I sat on the murphy bed last cruise and it was harder than the queen. While I assume the mattress will be the same as the sofa, the base might be different, giving a different experience.

I slept on the sofa bed on my last Disney cruise and it was a standard twin mattress. I had no problem with it at all. My sister slept on the queen bed. This time, both of my sisters are going so two of us will sleep in the bed and one on the sofa bed. I think they were equally comfortable, IMO.
