Can I change resorts at check in?

I am currently booked in a moderate room due to a contest we won. I had contact Disney about paying the difference to upgrade to a deluxe hotel but due to contest rules they cannot do that which I totally understand. They did suggest that at check in at the moderate I can inquire about availability at a deluxe to see if I can be accomodated then. I didn't want to appear cheap and ask if the cost would be off rack rate or current discount, etc. Anyone else ever try to do this and how did it work? Thanks!

I think it will really depend on when you go and which resort you want to upgrade to. And you won't appear cheap if you don't ask whether the quote is for rack rate or discount. You'll just appear uninformed

You need to do your research ahead of time (asking here is a good start!) Figure out which resort you want to stay at. Maybe pick another as a backup. Figure out if you'll be happy with a standard view, or want to upgrade even further to something else. Be aware that standard view rooms sell out fastest, and likely may not be available. Find out what the rack rates are for these rooms. Then check out the discount offers available at these resorts for the time you will be there.

When you arrive, you can ask for a resort change at the discounted rate (if there is one). If nothing is available, then ask for rack rate. You may get lucky. Again, a lot depends on your dates.

It could not hurt to ask, but I think it would be at rack rate.

The cost would be rack rate - the difference between rack rate at your moderate resort and rack rate at the deluxe you choose.

Just noticed how many posts you have under your belt!! SO obviously not a newbie! So you probably already have done what I just suggested. Good luck on your trip, and congratulations on winning. Just out of curiosity, when are you going to be there?

Aw that is a 4 letter word - RACK! LOL! Kind of figured as much but hoping for a success story here! The contest dates were a little odd and the only one that worked was 8/14 - 8/22 so not PEAK season....And to further complicate life I am only interested in YC garden view...I currently plan to enjoy my moderate stay and I also booked an additional 3 days at YC CL GV just bc we love YC soooo much it is hard to be at disney and not be there. We are big resort loungers! BUUT at check in I plan to ask. You never know. So we have a split stay right now (Contest and out of pocket at YC). But I will price compare both at rack rate to see honesly if I want to even incur THAT expense if they say yes. I love discounts too much to consider rack but we'll see!

It is about a 200 swing a night at rack rate...I don't think I am going to do it...Will just enjoy the mod and look forward to YC CL on back end of trip. Thanks for the advice though. I might ask but at least I know what to expect. If it was 100 yes I would .....
