We leave for SSR this Sat. 10/30. We rented from an owner and had them add the DDP, which we will pay for at check in. My husband is on the fence about getting the dinning plan.
Can we cancel the DDP at check in and just not pay for it or will there be a penalty?

I can call the resort Thursday and have access to the reservation, should I cancel the DDP then?

Not sure what to do.

Thanks!

The dining plan has to be cancelled at least 48 hours before your check-in date, by the owner that you rented points from.

Officially, no, although I don't know what they would do if you didn't have the money available to pay for it. I'm sure they wouldn't cancel your reservation, but not sure how they would handle removing it.

The reservation should be transferred over 48 hours before your arrival, however DDP changes have to made prior to 48 hours, thus the window for removal.

Thanks for the replies!

If we can't cancel it, that's OK, we were just not sure if it would really save any money. Seems like we would just about break even $ wise.

I do not want to bother the owner at this late date.

Remember, if you pay out of pocket, you have to add taxes onto what is coming out of your wallet. When using the dining plan, you can ignore the taxes. Might make the difference in your calculations, in case you forgot about that (many people do!).

I thought taxes and tip were not included in the DDP? So then only tips are extra? That does help.

I talked to my husband and we are going to keep the DDP. Thanks for all the replies, they were very helpful!

We don't think the DDP saves a significant amount of money but it sure is convenient especially with older children who can use the CS or snack credit while they are out and about. :thumbsup2

If you were planning on ordering the EXACT same thing without the DP that you would order with the DP, the DP will save you money. After we returned from our May, 2010 trip (TR link below), I took the receipts from all our DP meals and compared them to what it would have been OOP. There were 5 adults and the DP cost was $1,049.75 for our 5 night stay. If we would have paid OOP for the same items ordered and the same tips, the total would have been $1,341.39 or a savings of $291.64. That's about 22% savings.

However, we are not big dessert eaters or will share a dessert. A dessert is included in every CS and TS meal on the DP. We like appetizers and an adult beverage from time to time and those are not included on the DP. On our return trip after Thanksgiving, we will use our TIW discount and pay OOP for everything and see how that works out for us.
