Can I cancel part of a HDDR ADR and get refunded?

I have to book an ADR for 8 for the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. There is a possibility that the family I am going with might in the end not be able to make it. Can I make the ADR and pre-pay and then cancel some (but not all) of the people on the ressie if they decide not to come?

Is it relevant that there are not ADRs available for the smaller number of guests? (I looked, and for the date I want I can make an ADR for 8, but not for 4. Will that make it difficult for me to pare down the reservation if the other family can't make it? No matter what, at least 4 of us will definitely want to go.)

Actually, you already know the answer. You can cancel your reservation up to ?72? hours in advance and get a refund. But you can't just pare down the existing reservations: they go by table size. They would not seat a party of 4 at a table for 8. And you already know that they have no availability for a table for 4. So right now, it looks like all or nothing.

I don't know what date you're trying for. It's always possible that you will evenually find an opening in the future (cancellations happen all the time). You would just have to keep looking every day or 2.

Hi Minnie Mum,

I'm not sure if that is the complete answer. (And if I already knew the answer, I wouldn't have asked.) Are you telling me what you know to be true (like from direct experience or because you work there), or just what you believe to be true?

My preference is for all 8 of us to go. It is only by coincidence that I happened to check to see if ADRs for 4 were available. But what if we had booked an ADR for 8 months ago, when there were both ADRS for 4 and ADRs for 8 available? Would the cancellation policy be different then? Are you saying you know to be true that if my friend isn't able to make it I will be forced to cancel for everyone - not just the parties that aren't able to come?

Thanks to you (and anyone else) for any help in finding the actual policy.

From my experience just last week, I had to change our 10/6 ADR at Mickey's Backyard BBQ from 7 to 5 guests. I called the reservation line & they gladly changed it for me.

When I originally booked, I didn't book it under my DDP credits so it charged my credit card for all 7 people. The cast member noticed this & asked if she could change that for me while we were on the line to avoid any problems when we attended the dinner. SInce it was sold out, they had to go through management to get me a new reservation number for all the changes. In all, it took about 30 min but they were so helpful.

OP, You seem sensitive to people offering what they believe to be true versus actual policy. To get actual policy call and speak to a supervisor at Disney Dining.

Whoa!:scared1: Dude what's with the attitude? People just trying to help people, you know?

As a matter of fact I do know this from experience. However, I'm sorry that I cannot quote chapter and verse from Disney's policy books since i do not work for them:sad2:. Just a fan who has been going regularly since 1975.

It doesn't really matter how long ago you made your ADR and whether or not ADRs for 4 were available then. What matters is whether you made a single reservation for 8 or 2 reservations for 4. If the latter, then cancel one and you're fine. If the former, and AT THE TIME YOU CANCEL there is no availability for a party of 4, then you have a problem.

Another thought: is there perhaps availability at another show that night, or could you switch to another night during your stay?

It is always possible that you could just show up and throw yourself at their feet, begging for mercy. You never know. Disney is nothing if not accommodating.(sorry, I can't swear that this is in fact Disney policy) All I was saying in my previous post was (based on the wording of your initial post), you cannot partially cancel an ADR You either cancel it and make a new one, or you don't cancel.

If you want the official written Disney policy, then you would have to contact Disney directly. No point in asking a DISCUSSION board for that.

Honestly, I was being sensitive to the fairly snotty "Actually, you already know the answer" that Minnie Mum led with. If I had known the answer, I wouldn't have been asking. I'm not sure what the intent was besides snark, and I responded in kind.

Which I why I asked Minnie Mum if she was speaking from experience in her reply: "Are you telling me what you know to be true (like from direct experience or because you work there), or just what you believe to be true?"

I wasn't looking for a quote from an employee manual, just a BTDT answer. And IMHO, the reply I got was sort of rude, which wasn't called for as what I was asking for was help.

In the end I did call, and they told me they'd be happy to pare down the ADR as needed.

Thanks again to everyone that responded!
