can I call uber and be picked up at BC?

Is Uber basically just random people that pick you up in their own vehicle?

Not "random" -- they have to go through an application process with the company. And yes, they use their own vehicles.

I have had a couple of great experiences, with clean cars and friendly, efficient drivers; and one mediocre experience. That driver took a while to find the pickup area at the TTC. (You track their location on the app, so I could tell he was "wandering".) I would have thought any driver in the WDW area would know the ins and outs. Then when he picked me up I had to give directions to Beach Club for a quick stop then to ASMu, my final destination. If I hadn't had GPS on my phone, we would not have gotten anywhere. Since there aren't tips, the only consequences for a bad driver is a bad review on the app, which I felt I had to give him.

I don't understand the pricing for Uber. $2 on the way and 0 on the way back?

They had a credit - likely a $20 credit for their first ride. So the way out cost $22 (less $20) and the way back was probably $20 or less.

I'd really like to use Uber on our upcoming trip...to take us to Universal/IOA, like many of you've said previously. We will need them really early in the morning, like, they need to pick us up at 6am. Are they reliable that early? I'm sure they are, I just feel nervous about it since it's such a critical day for us that starts very early. We have to be there early to check in at Royal Pacific, get our EPs and for early entry (it opens at 8am the day we're there).

I think I've read over all the Uber threads but I don't recall reading an answer to an early AM question.

I'm *almost* convinced to use them, lol!!

If the wait is unacceptable to you after you have requested a driver (it shows how far away they are and you can watch them travel towards you on your app), simply ask the CM to get you a regular cab. I don't see how you can lose.

I am a big Uber fan after having had 2 bad experiences with Mears cabs in a row. They were both rude. One didn't turn on the meter (we were headed to the outlet mall). 5 mins in, I noticed and pointed it out. He said he forgot and then offered to charge me $20 for what I knew (because I had researched) was a $12 ride. We haggled and ended up agreeing to $15. Then we hit a massive jam and he spent the rest of the ride complaining very very loudly - to us, and then to a friend on the phone. All about how he wouldn't have driven us if he had realized we wanted to go to the mall. It was incredibly uncomfortable. Our 2nd Mears driver covered the meter with a cloth and only removed it occasionally when we insisted. We weren't set up for uber that trip and paid for super pricey towncars for the rest of the time since we were done with Mears.

ALL my Uber drivers have been polite and friendly and always courteous. Plus, cars are meticulously clean.

That sucks - he should be using his GPS on his phone. They do have to follow the best route possible as you can complain later if they longhaul you. (their routes are all tracked).

I agree and was very surprised when he obviously did not know where he was going. I have a feeling he won't be driving for Uber very long.

I actually always use my own GPS in any type of paid transportation, and I make it obvious I am doing so. But this guy seemed really clueless and relied on my directions.

He used the "Service Vehicle" entrance that's in between POFQ and POR with his Disney ID, which saved some time.

I hope that doesn't bust any Disney company rules!

I'm going to have to try using Uber when switching resorts on my trip in September. I was planning on using a cab to move the luggage between resorts.

Disney will move it for you at your request.

I'm also going to consider using Uber to move from one resort to the next.

The last time we went from BCV to WL, if not for a very attentive WL CM we would have had to wait a long time for our luggage - WL CM was so disgusted (overheard by me from a phone conversation ) he got in a car and went and got our luggage (mind you it had been over 5 hours)

So I will not repeat = we will transport our luggage ourselves. Its our responsibility, not Disney's anyway.

Luggage transfer is a courtesy service disney extends to its customers. Using it is a choice, not required.

So sorry you had such a bad experience :( And if you are planning to be back at the resort (and not at the parks for 10-12 hours), there is always the chance they could take that long, or more. In your case, I totally understand why you would prefer to transfer your luggage yourself. Uber should work out as a great way to do this.

Just returned home today. We used Uber 5 times. Every experience was great! Very, very friendly drivers. Longest wait was maybe 12 minutes. I had problems with the app a couple of times, but the driver just called me and I was able to tell him exactly where I was. I highly recommend Uber!

Did you use it from resort to resort? How was pricing? Can you give a bit more detail on how/when you used it?

I am so very glad it worked out so well for you. I know you had a lot of questions. And yes, when u get time, do give us all the details!

Simple. It's cheaper.

It's typically 50-75% cheaper than regular taxi fares. I have taken a taxi from my house to DTD and it was close to $28.00. I live less than five miles away from DTD. With Uber, it was less than $8.00 for the exact same trip. So $20.00 cheaper than a standard taxi fare.

You do not tip Uber drivers and they are not expecting a tip as taxi drivers do. The experience and price are just much better than typical taxi rides. The fare is paid for via the Uber app on your phone so no money is ever exchanged with the driver on an Uber trip. You receive a receipt to your email address as soon as the ride is over.

Tips are not expected, however they are accepted for good service (cash only)

I had the same experience but it was moving from BCV to POR. Handed off my bags around 8am. I knew I wouldn't get them until mid-afternoon, at the earliest. However, when I got to POR, I asked at Luggage Assistance if my bags had arrived yet...it was around 3:45ish. Nope, nothing from BC yet. Our room was ready, so we went and relaxed a bit. Called down to Luggage Assistance around 4:30...nope, nothing. They called BC to see what the story was. They were told that the CMs at BC had been too busy that day to transfer the luggage yet. Ummm, it was a Thursday, no conventions or large groups at BC to my knowledge! So, when I called again, around 5:15. Nope, no bags yet. They called BC again. Well, about 6:15ish, there was a knock at my door....there was the CM with our bags. He was so apologetic. When I tried to tip him, he flat out refused it. He said he wasn't taking a tip for such awful service...even if it wasn't on his end!!! He got a mention at the front desk later than evening. Hope it went into his file!!!
I don't like having Disney move my bags. It just takes too darn long. So, now I'll be taking my bags with me, and go directly to the next resort. Haven't used Uber yet....dh uses it all the time here at home. I just don't use many cabs to begin with.

We used Uber 4 times on our recent trip and it was fantastic. We stayed at POFQ and used Uber from AKL after a Boma dinner to go back to the resort. Another time we took it to Chef Mickey's from our resort. The last two times were to and from the Beach Club because we wanted to use the IG entrance to Epcot. So easy to leave from BC after Illuminations rather than make our may to the front of Epcot and wait in the long lines for buses. We never waited more than 10 minutes and our Uber drivers were very polite and friendly. Once my husband had to have his Magicband scanned by the guard at our resort and often the guards asked the Uber drivers for ID. Other than that, easy peasy.
