We are going to wdw in August, so I am sure we will be using the pool quite a bit at Pop; we will have ds6 with us, and dd7months- I saw this in Walmart tonight, and thought it would be great to take with us, but I don't know if they allow this sort of thing in resort. Of course we would be with her the entire time, but I like that it keeps some of the sun off her. This model is actually for 9 months old and up, but there is another one I saw at the store that looks very similar, but for smaller babies.

Has anyone ever tried one of these? How did you like it?

I have used almost the same one several times in the last 3 years on our trips. Never had any problem. BTW I love it too!!!

We've used stuff similar to that in the past. The only thing I have ever been told to remove from the pool was a snorkel. Go figure. Anyone know why snorkels are not allowed?

Please, *PLEASE* stay right next to your baby, even if she's in the float. I've seen babies manage to flip themselves right over in similar floats while their moms were swimming laps or dealing with an older child. It's a fun thing for the baby, not a life preserver. You'd be much better getting a good infant life jacket, of the kind that would force the baby onto her back. I bought my DS one used for about $10.

I'll step off my soapbox now. :mic:

Oh, I totally agree- that is why I said in my original post that of course we would be right with her the whole time. I would never leave her alone in the water- I am totally paranoid about that, lol. I even make ds still wear a life vest while swimming, and he has had lessons, lol. Just something I don't feel comfortable with.

Thanks for the reply- do you have any suggestions on places to get infant life jackets? I saw a couple at Walmart, but they said they fit either 50 pounds or 30 pounds and under (depending on the brand.) DD was only 11 pounds at her last checkup, so those life jackets just looked like they would be huge (and rather uncomfortable) on her. I will have to look around to see if I can find something smaller before our trip. Think she would look silly in a life jacket sitting in the floating tube? :rotfl: Told you I was paranoid. :lmao:

We have that exact one and DS loved it. I agree that you have to stay right with them, when he would splash around it seemed like it could go over. I do have a life vest for him, but even the smallest one I found could slip off of him (he is 24 lbs) and most say recommended for ages two and up.

We have that exact same floaty, its great and has never flipped over. I'm not sure why anyone took it up on themselves to condecend to you and tell you that you need to have common sense and stay by your baby, but you don't need a lifevest on top of the floaty as long as you are paying attention and are right next to the baby. Have a great trip.

I wasn't being condescending. I have personally seen babies left alone in a pool in one of these things while the mother was distracted. The baby can flip over (I've seen it happen and have had to rescue one baby while his mother was talking to a friend 20 feet away). It's easy to think that the baby is safe and happy, so you can deal with other stuff or talk to your friends. It's easy to get distracted ... I've had it happen to me.

As for a life jacket for a small infant, sorry, I don't know specifics. Maybe check a local boating supply store?

My DS used the same one last year when he was 1. He loved it! I didn't bring it w/ me to Disney because I just could not fit one more thing in my suitcase but at the hotel pool they had something similar. I can't remember exactly what it was and there was only 1 of them there, we stayed at All Star Sports.

We used that exact float for DS his first summer, he loved it. Worked great in baby pools too, he was able to "walk" around in it & it kept him upright. Loved that float so much we stuck with that manufacturer & used their next step up last year.

I wouldn't use a life vest for a little baby. We had one of those bathing suit type things that have a ring around it. They can still tip and stuff in it, but at least then you can just hang on the edge of it and let them 'think' that they are swimming. I don't know if you can even buy them anymore, but it looked like a girls bathing suit with an inner tube around the belly. (the boy's had the full bathing suit too obviously).

Thats so cute!
My ds had something similar as a baby and it resembled a train!!

Technically, I believe that Disney may have a rule/something that says you are unable to bring any type floaty thing (as they cannot see under it for other kids, etc), so I would perhaps call first to see if it would be okay. Would be terrible to bring it and not be able to use it....
I am sure one of the moderators here can track down the info for you though. I know it was posted not too long ago and I never can find anything :confused3
I know that at POR a year or 2 ago, someone brought something similar and they were asked to remove it from the pool by the lifeguard.
I do know they allow other things, like those noodles and also the squishy balls to play with because we bring them every year and then pass along to another family to enjoy when we leave.
Good Luck!

We have been 3 times in the past 14 months and have used a variety of floats etc. in the resort pools. From pool noodles and tubes to lifejackets and arm floats, we have never had a problem with anyone complaining or asking us to remove them. I also don't recall seeing any rules or regulations concerning pool floats.
I would imagine it's up to the life guards on duty at that moment. If the pool is crowded- I'd imagine they might not let you use it.

i have brought things to the contemporary pool and never had a problem, many other people had floats and stuff too. i too am a neurotic mommy who has put my little one in a life jacket and a floating seat. (overkill maybe?) the life jacket alone probably would be fine. we have a store near us called west marine it is a boating store that sells childrens life jackets. my dad has a boat and my dd has gone on since one, and the life jacket fits up to 35 pounds so it would probably be too big for your little one. if you do go the life jacket route just make sure to get one that has the piece behind the neck, that is what would keep a little ones head above water. most of the character ones do not have that piece. hth.

We have the exact same one. If you lived near me I would give you mine since ds won't use it anymore.

We were told we couldn't use this at CR because of the canopy. The guard said they can't see underneath it, so it wasn't allowed. Then he checked with another CM who said if we took the canopy off we could still use it. I guess it depends on the pool and CM at the time. DS likes it a lot. I think you know better than to turn your back on a baby in the water. :thumbsup2 DS doesn't like me holding him the whole time in the water so, although safe, the life jacket wouldn't work for us. He loves to splash and walk but unless it's a zero depth pool we always use it.

I almost forgot, but you probably already know.

Disney requires the use of swim diapers or plastic diaper covers for infants.

That said, even though the ring has a hood, be sure to bring at least SPF 50 lotion. The hood will provide no burn protection.

We bought this life jacket for DS when he was under one and we were staying at a cabin by a lake for vacation. http://www.safelifejackets.com/product/Infant-Nylon-Life-Jacket-2_Buckle.html

I could not find an "infant" life vest in any local store and had to oder it online. That being said, we used to use the same spring float with DS when he was small, and we really liked it. As long as you are right there with him, I don't think you need a life vest, too. --Katie
