Can I bring boxed lunches through security?

On past plane trips I know I have picked up a boxed lunch and brought to the airport to eat on the plane. I have not done this since last year and the new rules on liquids and gels and going through security.

Next month there will be 7 of us traveling for a 12:30 PM flight. I thought it would be great to have lunch along. I know I can't bring a drink, but how about sandwiches packeaged with a side of potato salad and a cookie? Anyone know?

The sandwich, chips and cookie should be okay. But I'm not sure about potato salad. May be too close to a gel-like substance. I would forgo the salad.

Sure, we bring food all the time. And you can buy drinks at the airport once you are through the security checkpoint.

We went to a wedding last week and I was able to bring wedding cake through security

I've heard of condiment packets being an issue (may is a liquid ) so you might need to put them in your 1 quart baggie...

That's right. Condiments on the sandwich, OK. Condiments in the packet, maybe not.

I agree that the potato salad might be an issue. For one, some overzealous TSA inspector could call it a gel or liquid. For another, you can't take through freezer packs (unless you have meds that need to stay cold or something like that), so it could get a bit "off."
