Can I borrow enough points? Help a newbie!!

Hi all,

I own at 160 pts at BLT with a June UY. I want to bank them for a 2010 trip.

For that trip I'll need 440, so will I be able to bank 2009s, use 2010, and borrow 120 from 2011 and do it so I can go on my trip June 6th 2010?

And will I have any problem booking this November (7mos out) without having all 440 points in my account?

Sounds right to me. And your points usage is tied to when the reservation is, not when you MADE the reservation, so it should be no problem. You can bank and borrow at the same time when you're making your reservation.

You can book the 6/6/2010 trip on May 6, 2009 if you are going to stay at BLT. You can book the trip on November 6, 2009 if you are going to stay at a non-home resort. All reservations are subject to availability.

The only thing you have to do first is bank the 2009 use year points. Then the 2009 points are ready to be used for a trip that will happen between 6/1/2010 and 5/31/2011. MS will borrow what you need when you call to make the reservation.

Point usage is based on the dates of your stay, not the date you book.

Is your June 2010 trip a BLT stay or some other resort, if it is at BLT you want to make your reservations 7/6/09. Yes you have enough points (assuming you do not use them otherwise). Even if it is not for BLT if you are sure you want to go to WDW on points then you might make a backup reservation at BLT (standard view I would think) so you do not draw more than the 440 points you need for your “ideal reservation” just in case you are not able to book exactly what you want at the 7 month mark.

Remember once you borrow the 2011 point into 2010 there is no returning them, they will remain unbankable, untransferable 2010 points if you have to cancel or your final reservation does not use all of them

Another important way to look at your DVC account... the points for every upcoming year are already in your account - they do not get deposited when your UY month begins. This is why UY has nothing to do with when you can make reservations. Your 2011 points are in there waiting for your decision - borrow (effectively "converting" them into 2010 points), bank (making them equivalent to your 2012 points, which also happen to already be in your account), or keep their original designation, for use during the 2011 use year.

Yes to both questions.

You cannot borrow points unless/until you make the reservation that will use them. MS should review the borrowing rules with you before the end of the call.
