Can I apply a code to a package I already booked?

I'm just learning about these codes you get via e-mail or postecard. I haven't booked our vacation yet (late April 2009), but lets say I do, I plan on booking the package, and then later I'd receive a code. Can you call back and apply the code to your package (I know most codes are for discounts only on the room portion, not tickets or anything else), or are codes good only for new bookings?

As I understand it, as long as the trip hasn't been fully paid then you can add in a code or discount if it becomes available, but that the discounts don't "stack".

Should be able to as long as that resort & type of room is still ava for the code. They only have so many rooms types per resort. Keep in mind the code are only good for certain days & months of the year. Say if you are trying to get free dining if they do it again next Aug/Sept you can only do FD or the code not both. Hope this make sense
