I want to book a 5 day vacation for 3 weeks from now, which means the total cost would have to be paid in full now. And because I want to book the room discount promo, I'd have to book the room by December 31, 2012.

So if I book only the room right now, can I add tickets and the quick service dining plan onto my reservation in another week when I have the rest of the money?

Thanks and sorry for any confusion!

You can't add a dining plan unless you book a package. With room only you don't have a package booked, so nope.

Thanks for the quick reply! So even though I'm using a "room-only" discount, if I book the tickets at the same time I book the room, then I can add a dining plan, right?

No. You are just buying the tix, you still have a room only discount/booking.

In order to get the meal plan you must book a room and ticket package.

Call and ask. For our F&W vacation in Nov.I always book room only with my AP discount. Then I call about a week or so before and add dining. They tell me it is now a package and I have to pay in full. But that said. APs don't have to buy park passes if they want the DDP you may have to if you don't have an AP.

Yes, you should be able to do that. It is what we are doing.

I have booked a room only with a discount for our February trip. The CM assured me that I can add the dining plan up to 5 days before we check in, but recommended that I add it at least seven days just in case. And we would be adding the tickets then, too. So that makes it a package.

If you book room only now and want to change to a package later, the room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit (but in your case, payment in full since you are less than 45 days from arrival) as money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. Room only and packages are separate reservation systems so a room only reservation cannot be "converted" to a package just by adding tickets and dining, so to go from one to the other would require the cancellation/refund of one and rebooking of the other. With that said, since the promo ends 12/31, you will have to speak with someone in guest services to make the change to a package so you don't lose your discount on the room portion. Good luck.

Yes u can I was able to on our last trip. They applied the room only %discount to the room and just applied the tickets and dinning after. But I had to call to do it. Good luck

That doesn't seem right. If a person has a room only reservation with a discount then they should be able to buy park tickets and the dining plan without losing the room discount. You're not adding discounted tickets and discounted dining plan. The reason we chose the Room only discount over the stay, play and dine plan was that we saved more money on the room only discount with full price tickets and dining plan.

I never said the room discount would be lost. You can have a package with a discount on the room portion of the reservation, but you cannot just add tickets and dining to a room only and make it a package. The one would have to be cancelled and refunded and the other booked. As I said in my post, guest services would have to make the change over from room only to package so the OP wouldn't lose the discount on the room as a regular CRO CM would not be able to do this with an expired promo.

This is correct ^^^.

A room only reservation is simply a room. The balance is not due until arrival/check in.

A package reservation can be a room/tickets or room/tickets/dining.

Each of these have different policies and procedures. You can not change a room only res to a package res. The room only will be cancelled and a new package will be booked. If the discount has expired and can get very tricky when cancelling and rebooking to change from one to the other since you are booking a new reservation entirely (with new res numbers).

You are absolutely able to book a package using a room only discount, you're simply getting a discount on the room portion only.

AP packages are different since they do not require a ticket purchase.

If you have a room only discount on a package with tickets you can add the DP later because you still have a package booking. If you're reservation number is a mix of 7 numbers and letters it is a package. If it is 12 numbers it is a room only reservation.

To the OP, your cheapest bet is to book a package w/ 1 day tickets and apply the room discount to it. Then, when funds become available, add your dinning and increase your no. of days for park tickets and add hoppers if wanted, that way you have a package from the get go w/out risking losing your discount or having to wait for a refund by switching from room only to package.

I was a little worried about adding tickets and dining to my room only discount because of some of the confusion regarding discounts, packages and what happens if you try to add tickets and dining after the promotion expires. So I called reservations this morning. The CM told me that I had to book the tickets and dining now before the promo expired on Dec 31st. She had me really worried that I might lose the RO discount. :confused3 Then she checked with her supervisor and found out that I could call back in January after the promo expired, add the tickets and the dining and not lose my room only discount. :cool1: She admitted that it was news to her. :)

So, yes, you can add the tickets and dining plan later without losing the discount.

While I was on the phone with her I had her give me the costs with the dining plan and tickets. When I found out the DDP was $58.00 per day I decided not to add it. I've always paid OOP before, and at $58 per day, I'm sure we can spend less than that.

I did add the tickets, though. I only had to pay for the tickets. I didn't have to pay any additional on the room. So the balance of my room is due when I check in.

This is what we have done on two different trips with no problem!

Did those of you able to do this get new package reservation numbers or did you keep your room only reservation number?
I wonder if Disney has changed this from earlier this year, or if the CM I got on the phone didn't know as much as some of the CMs other posters have gotten. When I changed a room only to a package to add dinning in May 2012, I had to put a new $200 deposit down on the package and wait for my refund on the room only to be deposited into my account from my now cancelled room only reservation. My reservation number also changed from the all number room only to the mixed letter/number of a package. I did keep my bounceback room discount on the new package.
Just curious, if OP was able to do this as well.

what im worried about now is my reservation is a 8number /letter. not 7. maybe this why it wont link in the website.??

Since room only bookings and packages are different reservation systems, tickets and dining can't just be "added" to a room only to make it a package and keep the same reservation number and money cannot be transferred between the two, which is why one has to be cancelled/refunded and the other booked, resulting in a totally different reservation number.

You would be cancelling that reservation entirely and rebooking it as a package when you add tickets and dining. So it would no longer be a room-only reservation. As to whether that would result in loss of a room discount, it would depend on the discount, so you might need to ask WDW that.

If the discount is still good when you rebook you should be able to keep it. If the discount has expired at the time the change is made, either you couldn't keep the discount or there would have to be some fancy footwork by WDTC to keep the discount and you'd need to find a representative who could do it. No matter what they tell you, it is still a cancellation and rebooking.
