Can Grumpy get Happy on a Disney Family Vacation? AKL CL 1/09 PTR

GREAT report so far! We're staying at AKL CL in March, with my 2 DD's (14 & 9)....& i love reading Minnies take on the trip & the dining!

Sorry for the hiatus. It has been so beautiful here in Charlotte that we have been playing outside more and getting away from the computer. But, Minnie has been sick the last two days so it back to writing our TR!

Here is her report of Day 1 (see our Dining Review for more about dinner):

Day 1- Hollywood Studios/ Epcot

We woke up about 7:15 am and got ready. We then headed upstairs to the lounge (We were staying club level.) I had a bagel with cream cheese and some fruit. To drink I had pineapple juice. I t tastes like it is fresh squeezed!

Then we hurried downstairs and outside to catch the bus to Hollywood Studios. When we got there we watched the opening show. If you want to really see this, get to the park earlier. Crowds gather and it can be awfully hard to see over tall people (if you're a kid you know what I mean.).

As soon as they let us in we rushed over to Toy Story Mania. The line was short, it couldn't have been more than ten minutes. We kept moving the whole time. But even if you can't make it to the park right at opening time, there is some entertainment in line. Mr. Potato Head is right up in front telling jokes. You are also standing in Andy's room on a candy land floor while you are surrounded by larger than life Lincoln Log houses, Tinker Toy Creations, and more! Well enough about the line, let's get on the ride! You finally enter a part of Andy's room as never seen before. It has little moving two sided carts (you ride in these) which you are immediately put on. One thing I noticed about this room is the huge night light beside Andy's bed. Once we got on, we got spun around through some hallways and were welcomed by Woody and friends. Then we started the shooting. The trick is to pull the trigger really fast, you never run out of bullets so you get more chances to hit the targets. Some targets are harder to get than others.

When we got off Toy Story Mania, Belle and Baloo headed to Jedi Training to see if Baloo could get picked. Meanwhile, my dad (aka Grumpy) and I went on the Rock'n Roller Coaster. We waited in line about 30 minutes. After you stand in line outside for a little while, you enter the record studio. There you stand in line for a little longer. From there you enter a room with a screen in front. There the record artists greet you. They get interrupted by a woman who pulls up in a limo. She reminds the band that they have a gig in a few minutes. They are very surprised to here this. They then ask, "What about our fans?" She calls for a "super fast limo" to get us to the gig on time. After standing in line for a little while longer we finally got into the limo. We sat in the back and do not recommend it. As a huge roller coaster girl, I do not mind the jerkiness in the back, in fact I enjoy it. But the back of the "limo" has speakers right next to you blasting music into your ears. Later you are screaming too much to notice, but at the beginning of the ride the music can be very disturbing. After entering the limo, we got pulled up to a stop light. It is counting down-5, 4, 3, 2, 1,……..0! Then you blast off, really, really, really fast. I felt like I was being pulled back so hard, I would never be able to pull myself forward again. You immediately go through a loop and later on, a corkscrew. I would not recommend this to those who get motion sickness.

After the Rock'n Roller Coaster, we met up with Belle and got to see Baloo get his diploma. Then we went to see the Muppet show. On the way we met Donald Duck. The Muppet show had "technical difficulties" and we were not allowed into the show. We got to do this later. Instead we went to see the Indiana Jones show.

At the beginning of the show, they told us about how extras play an important role in movies. Then they asked if anyone 18 years or older would like to be an extra in the show. Grumpy raised his hand and was picked! He did very good and got to have his own death scene which was hilarious. Overall, the show was very good. The stunts were amazing and we all really learned from the show. Here's one tip. If you don't have a sense of humor, do not volunteer. It is a very humorous job.

Next we went to see The Magic of Disney Animation. There are characters to meet outside the theater. We met Sorcerer Mickey and The Incredibles. Then we had lunch.

We had lunch at ABC Commissary. I had a hamburger. It was very good.

Next, we went to see if the Muppet Show was working. It was and we got to see it. It was hilarious! And since it was in 3-D, it felt like you were touching some things!

The last thing we did at the park was meet the cars. That was cool.

Back at the hotel we took a short nap. We also saw some animals. Then we drove to Epcot for dinner. We ate at a place in Germany called Beergarten. Baloo and I found out as another surprise that there were singers and musicians playing while we ate. That was so cool. For dinner I had a potato-leek soup which was very good- I had two helpings of that. With it I had pretzel bread which was amazing. It tasted just like a soft pretzel. I also had cucumber salad and potato salad. They were all delicious. For dessert I had regular vanilla pudding, apple strudel, and cheesecake which were also fabulous.

Lots of pictures later, we were told we were going to see the firework show, "Illuminations", but we would be on the water! Baloo and I were very excited. The boat ride was very calming and the scenery from the boat was very pretty. It was colder on the water than on land, but we had layers on and Belle had hotties (pocket warmers) for us. The fireworks were very pretty. The explosion in the beginning (representing the creation of Earth) was so big and hot, we could feel the heat from the boat we were on!

Day one in Disney World was great! I was looking forward to going to Magic Kingdom the next day. Good night!
