can golf carts be rented from an off site agency?

We are planning a 2 week trip and the golf cart fee is almost $650..(my MIL has a bad knee so it is a necessity). In the past we've rented electric wheel chairs from an offsite place and had no problems, and saved a bunch..

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

We just returned from 32 nights at FW. We had a great time as usual and enjoyed the use of a Golf Cart from "Golf and Electric Vehicles" for our entire stay. They charge $250/week or $450/month plus tax. The cart was not new, but it was quite serviceable and was delivered directly to our site when we arrived and was taken away on the day we packed up. They do not pick up or deliver on weekends.

So is she still renting an electric wheelchair?? What about going to the parks?? There are many sidewalks around Ft. Wilderness and she could use the electric wheelchair to get around the Fort and use it at the parks.

wow....that sounds great I'd much rather pay for the month and still save! I'll give steve a call this morning,

we aren't sure about the wheelchair..she thinks she can make it in the parks (doubtful) but what she ended up doing our last trip was renting an ecv by the day from the parks. She would have saved so much money by renting it for the whole trip like we'd done the time before.

I had thought I read a while ago that Disney did not allow off-site companies to deliver golf carts anymore. I know I read it at least a couple of years ago. People said that if you wanted ot use an off-site company then you had to go pick it up, tow it in etc. But it is good to know that someone just did it and had the pick-up/delivery. I am fortunate because I just convinced DH to buy a golf cart last week. And, it's Disney Red. I think I will have to make up a Mickey decal for the front.

We have our golf cart that we bring all the the time. It is also disney red with a disney decal on the front. We will be back at the beginning of May with it.

How much is the 6 passenger cart? For the most part we only needed a 4 passenger, but I must admit, one day we squeezed 6 on to the 4 passenger.

it was $325 a week...I didn't think to ask about the month rate because from what you posted it may have been less than the 2 week rate. I was so happy that they had a larger cart it slipped my mind. Once we talk to MIL and get a decision from her about the ECV we'll have a better idea of what we'll need.

With the bike barn barn cart we would have been in a bind trying to get 5 people on the 4 person cart and this rate isn't much more even with the delivery fee. The only neg was that we arrive on the Monday the 28th which is considered a holiday so he won't deliver till Tuesday.

Outside cart rentals are not allowed to be delivered to Disney property. Yes it has been happening a lot since the security gate has been removed from the front of Fort wilderness. The unfortunate part of this whole thing is that the outside companies are not adhereing to "the rules". This will probably end up causing a harder stand on non-disney carts. With so many outside carts entering proprty, there will be liability problems if any accident ever occured. if that ever happens, watch out.....all outside carts migh go away.

Are you sure about outside rentals not being allowed? We just rented for a month from Steve, very reasonable, good cart, delivered and retrieved on time. I find no reference anywhere in any literature about outside rentals not being allowed. That would be like not allowing bikes, wheelchairs, strollers, etc., etc.

good point, what would be the difference between a cart and a ecv? you see tons of them at the parks....I hope we don't have any trouble. my DH is really looking forward to it (its the little things that make him happy...lol)

Many years ago it was official Disney policy to allow outside vendors to deliver carts directly to sites using commercial vehicles which were driven to the site. During loading and unloading of carts thses vehicles blocked traffic in loops for short periods of time. Disney did end the policy of allowing these vehicles belonging to companies (not registered guests) from entering the campground area; they were stopped at the gate.

At that point the companies "adapted" by forcing customers to come to their place of business and tow a cart back. Very bad for the outside compnies business as many guests do not want to go to the trouble.

Golf & Electric Vehicles Group (formerly known as CUSTOM CARRIAGES, INC.) has adapted further. They utilize unmarked vehicles and do not drive into the camping loops. They use the overflow parking lot to unload, and then drive just the cart to your site. I have used their service and find it to be excellent. As a matter of fact, Steve is the one who delivered and picked up may cart. He is extermlly professional and works for customer service. While I am one of the first ones around here to say "follow the rules"; I have never seen a sign posted, been asked to sign anything at check in or been advised in any way that outside vendors are prohibited. Along a similar vein, many people order food from on line companies and have it delivered to the reception outpost - Are these "non-Disney" deliveries prohibited? Do they not compete with the trading Post as outside cart vendors compete with the bike barn?

Folks just need to realize a couple of facts:

• Outside carts are required to follow Disney cart rules
• Renting an outside cart will probably not save you money on less than a two week rental

This would have been useful information as we paid Disney's rate for a golf cart two weeks ago. DH called around and no one would delivery to Disney as was against the rules. He even called Disney and asked if we could have someone deliver a cart as we neede a 6 paasnger one and they didn't have those for rent. They told us no. So instead we "clown car'd" it. Literally, we stuffed 5 adults, 2 lap infants, and 2 strolelrs onto a 4 person golf cart. A sight to see. I'm half suprised that there wasn't a picture of us somewhere on the board

I can't wait to see how it'll work out, we added a trip and needed another cart (4 pass this time) so I called Steve and he was so helpful. The price isn't that much cheaper than from the bike barn for the 1 wk but I like the personalized service. Besides, Disney gets enough of our money...gotta spread it around

I just wanted to tell everyone that it is indeed okay to rent from offsite and our experience was wonderful. The cart was waiting for us as we were checking in. We told the CM that we needed to pull off out of the way to get the delivery and said it was no problem to just pull up and off to the side.

We had a cart rented from the Bike Barn for our next trip in May that I needed to cancel so we did that in person. When the CM asked why I told her we needed a 6 person cart and was able to get it off site. She tried to sell me on the idea of sqeezing into the 4 person....no thanks

The service was fantastic, Steve rode a bus to our loop to pick up the cart then drove it back to his vehicle. Very easy and we saved some $$ too

One last tidbit, had we not rented offsite we wouldn't have been able to get a cart for the entire week we were there. At the beginning of the week the carts were sold out! Needless to say there was alot of cart envy going on
