Can Dogs Eat Turkey?

My vet (I'm got the dogs with pancreatic issues) said eggs are fine as long as they are not seasoned. My dogs prefer poultry but sometimes get eggs if we run out of time to cook for them.

Thank you so much everyone. DS#1 called me and said he pee'd blood again today. DH said that it will happen. The tumor is "friable". That said, he doesn't like his new kibble so I hand fed him turkey. He is perfectly capable of eating but I think I am spoiling him. Tonight DH said, "just pour the steak juice over his old dog food (Canidae) and see if he wants it." He loved it. I gave him some steak, no seasoning. He ate well. He seems happy. I just want him to live a normal life span. Its hard enough to lose a dog at any time, but its awful before their 'time'. Today I made turkey 'soup', boiled hamburger and heated up chopped chicken. He doesn't like sweet potato. He likes scrabbled eggs. Is that okay?

Spoil away. If a full life is not in the cards he should have a happy one.

Spoil the heck out of him. As long as the turkey isn't bothering his belly and isn't seasoned he should be fine. A word of caution however, I gave my lab about 5 pieces of turkey once, and it ended up costing me about $400. The next day while we were at work, she was in her metal crate and got the runs. She bent the bars on the crate trying to get out, was covered in poo and made a general mess on her way out the door. My ex-husband had to stand outside aiming the hose at her bum all night while I ran to the vet to get her something to stop it. Then two days later we were back at the vet because it *really* stopped her up. The crate was destroyed, as well as some carpets she hit on her way out. Whatever causes the gas and sleepiness in turkey can also cause extreme runny-poo.

Dawn, sorry for helping hijack your thread. As far as I know, eggs are fine for pets. Scrambled egg was an early suggestion for our cat's issues and egg yolks are part of our raw diet "meatloaf". I also tend to agree with others that a little "spoiling" is justified if you're trying to put weight on an ailing animal.

That is very interesting. I'm going to ask the vet about that...it sounds like it may be an option for us. It certainly makes sense! It would be wonderful to be rid of the dietary issues!

Don't be surprised if your vet discourages raw diets for several reasons. One, major pet food companies fund a great deal of research/education within veterinary schools. Two, (as a PP mentioned) there are specific guidelines/recipes for preparing raw - even an open-minded vet would run a risk of advocating a home-made diet unless he/she knew the owners would properly follow through.

I'm not a fanatic. Only became educated on raw because of the little pooh-leaking creature in my avatar. :lmao:

This is what I did for Ted as he got older. Eggs are fine...protein is good for doggies.

I haven't met a pet yet who doesn't love turkey!

Max eats a lot of human food, including roast turkey, chicken and beef. I chop the meat up small, mix it with gravy and dry dog food, then microwave it.

ETA: He loves my "doggie" French toast. I make it with egg, water (instead of milk) and bread.

do they make a bean-o for dogs?

Actually, I think they do...or something like it. I also think that you can actually give your dogs some of the 'human' kind. But ask your vet about the correct dosages.
