Can cats have allergies?

Kitties with nasal discharge & sneezing usually have an infection, particularly herpes virus. Don't worry though! They have their own version of herpes & it is not contagious to people. Highly contagious to other cats.

They usually get the virus as a kitten & it stays in their body their whole lives. It can destroy the lining of the nose causing the nasal signs.

L-lysine can help. Ask your vet about it.

Cats do get allergies. But the most common symptom is itchiness which they show either by excessive scratching or licking. Scratching around the face is a common sign of food allergies. Licking the belly or lower back is usually environmental or flea allergies.

Hope this clears up soon in your kitty. He is a beautiful boy & looks like a lot of fun!
