Can anyone with melasma recommend a foundation?

While I would love the rejuvenation, I just don't think I could get through the process. I'm presuming you shouldn't wear make-up at all until the "peel" has occurred? I couldn't manage that and still be at work for the two days immediately after like DisneyFan32 has suggested. (I don't have melasma, BTW.)
I think it comes down to remembering that melasma is a medical condition with cosmetic symptoms. Some insurance companies even pay for the treatments because they are a medical condition. I think if you saw it as a treatment that was required to maintain your skin's normal appearance, you would be able to have just about any treatment done even if the temporary side effects were uncomfortable. I've seen people cope with far more uncomfortable symptoms at work. Heck, even my my coworker who is pumping breastmilk looks miserable sometimes. Melasma is not merely an annoyance. It is a disease of the skin that can be extremely disfiguring. I think if you had it you would be able to do just about anything to treat it!

It's so funny (not really). I got through 3 pregnancies with no melasma. It wasn't until I went on my last Disney trip in 2014 that it suddenly showed up. I was 33. I think spending that many hours in the sun did it. Seemingly overnight I had patches show up on both cheeks, between my eyebrows, and above my lip. I've spent the last yr and a half wearing strong daily sunscreen, and trying all the creams. They haven't really touched it.

I had been wanting to try a chemical peel, but I was worried about whether it would actually help. These recommendations from you all have really helped me make the decision.

I'm tired of feeling like I have to be in full makeup to leave the house. I prefer to wear little to no foundation.

I agree - you're probably very correct. But since I don't, I think I'd have a hard time, not only putting up with the immediate after-effects but also justifying to my boss & co-workers why I was so messed up over what would be (in my case) simply a "vanity" procedure.

I only have a small one along the top of my cheek, which is easily concealed. But I have psoriasis that likes to pop up at it's angriest on my jawline and forehead. I always have a tube of dermablend smooth camo foundation and a body coverage stick in my makeup bag.

I use a shade that is basically a shade lighter than my unaffected skin then set it with a mineral powder. Yes, it is all about applying so you blend and nor look like you're wearing makeup. It takes a good cosmetologist teaching you how to and a lot of practice. But things can be concealed.

I can easily apply makeup the 1st day after the peel, but not the rest of the following days until the peel takes place.

I tell people at my workplace the day before my peel so they are prepared!
