I have between 6-12 Yankee Candle jar candles that I've used on a candle warmer over the past couple of years, so while they still have all their wax, the scent is pretty well gone. I hate to throw them out, it seems that someone who is crafty could find some use for them--reuse the wax for other candles or somthing along those lines.

I'd be happy to ship them to anyone who can use them--especially to somehow benefit a charity--on my dime.

Anyone?

Sorry for going off topic here, But I've been considering a warmer but I wasn't sure if they worked. If you don't mind - Does the scent disperse with warmers? Does the wax melt? I've read that they can be fire hazards (warming plate) - ever any problems? Thanks!

I really can't use them, but I wanted to tell you how wonderful I think it is that you're doing this. (Though, shipping might be high - are you sure you want to pay it?)

I"ve been using them for two full years in my house. They melt the wax down to a liquid, so you don't want to use it anywhere that it could be knocked over. Use the same care as you would with a burning candle or other electrical appliance. I have one tucked into a corner on my counter and another on a table in an out of the way part of my bedroom. The scent disperses just like it would if you burned the candle without the fear of a flame induced fire.

I pretty much leave them on non-stop, I'll turn the one in my bedroom off if the weather is predicted to be terrible--it's near a window and I'm afraid something will come crashing through and knock it over getting wax all over. Of course if something crashes through the window I've got a mess anyhow, but I'm a bit "Monkish" and wax all over the table and carpet is one of those nightmarish things for me. :rotfl: If I had younger kids I wouldn't leave that one where it is, but I'd still use the one in the ktichen.

Bottom line, you treat them the same as you would with a burning YC, but no soot or flame worries! The warming plate is no more liekly to start a fire than any other electrical appliance, and you would give it the same care and common sense. (See my thread about consumer warnings and look for the post about hairdryers in the bathtub :rotfl: )

DH gets discounted UPS ground through work, it won't cost all that much. I'd rather spend $5 to ship them to someone who can use them then see them go to a landfill!

Yes, be very careful with the warmers! We were at walmart not too long ago and they had one on a display. Someone had knocked the candle off of the warmer and off of the shelf. It was a horrible mess. If a child had been in the way, I'm sure they would have been injured!

Anne why don't you go to a craft or health food store and buy some essential oils in scents that you like? You could add them to the wax.

The thrifty person in me wants to say "send them to me; I'll use them when the electricity goes out" but the "you already have too much junk now" in me is smacking me on the back of the head.

Well, I've tried that, and it doesn't seem to be working well anymore. :confused3 But I might not be adding enough, or doing it right. I'm not the craftiest type person in the world.

Unfortunately when you put the candles on a candle warmer the wicks slide down into teh bottom of the jar, so they aren't even functional as "functional" candles anymore.

oh that can be fixed. when the wax is heated, you just fish the wick back up out of the jar, loop it around a pencil, lay that across the top of the jar and let the wax cool again. voila! it's a candle again. hehe

Yeah, if you want that strong scent you have to put in alot of smelly stuff. ;)

Anne,

I will gladly take the candles off your hands as I was thinking I could use them for class projects at my childs elementary school (room mother)
You won't have to pay for any shipping either as I live right around the corner! :)
