Our trip includes a rental car, but I know the gas prices around here are sky high, I assume CA. has to be much higher.

Gas prices around can vary a bit. Right now I'm paying around 3.49 and that's for 87 grade gasoline.

Thanks everyone. Thats so high compared to our $3.00 a gallon.
Maybe they will drop.

It's about the same here Nevada, so it won't be too big of a sticker shock (well no more then what I get here at home!). I doubt they'll be going down any time soon, not with travel season upon us.

ARCO and COSTCO are on the low end between $3.25 and #3.40

Name brand gas like chevron or Shell will be closer to the $3.50-$3.75 range depending on where you buy it.

For the middle of summer I would plan on $3.50 close to the parks.

Well, ARCO doesnt take credit cards. COSTCO only takes AMEX.

Thats a bit restriction there. I would check gasbuddy like what one of the posters mentioned and hunt for a cheap gas station.

Here's a bit of info that affects gas purchase at ARCO (and many other gas stations and fast food places) - if you use your debit card you will have to pay a fee of 40 - 70 cents per transaction.

So, you can get gas at ARCO with your debit card but you'll pay a 45 cent surcharge or something like that. Same with Taco Bell, for example, use your debit card and pay a fee.

It isn't like that in Colorado at all so it was a shock for me out there. I think businesses pay higher fees or something so they pass them along to consumers. I'm sure they're all paying more in taxes but it's still not something I anticipated until I arrived. Cash is always better for best prices in CA.

ACK. :scared1:

I thought our $2.83 was high. Wow. I think we'll be taking a shuttle and hoofing it most of the time.

Wow. Idaho is high. It was $3.30 yesterday. And, it takes a freaking tank of gas to get anyplace worth going to!!!!!!!! (Sorry. Im having an Anti-Idaho day today.) :sad2:

Today in San Diego:

$3.59/$3.69/$3.79 per gallon

Yep, I filled up my little Mercedes today with premium at $3.59 a gallon. Fifty bucks it was, and I have a small car!

We're over $3.70 a gallon for regular!!! Yes, the news reported Chicago is paying the most in the country for gas.

I paid $3.29 at the Costco near the stadium yesterday, I was surprised because Costco is usually not *that* much lower.

Near DLR right now, I would expect to pay between $3.40 and $3.50 for 87.

you can check gasbuddy.com and see if that helps. We left dl May 11th and paid $3.43 a gallon for the regular/cheaper stuff.
here in SD we are at $3.19 for regular.

California requires a special blend of gasoline to be sold in the state. Thus they cannot import gas from other states and have less flexibility on how they manage supplies. This drives up the cost of production and hence price at the pump. Plus, I think they have higher state taxes on gas.
