I've been reading innuendos concerning PO/Riverside for some time now. This is our favorite resort and we stay there at least twice a year, the last time this past December. Wewere told then that they were not closing any of the buildings. Now I hear that some are closed with more coming. What's up? Does anyone know for certain? We were disappointed, in December, at the cutbacks there, but thought it was because of the recent happenings.

all of the closings are the result of reduced occupancy rates (yes, as a result of 9-11)....
i assume as soon as the occupancy rates go back up, they'll reopen the closed resorts....
last i heard, port orleans was completely closed, and the mansions at dixie landings were closed...
however the bayou rooms at dixie landings are open....
i'm sure they'll stay open...
barring any new catastrophes, my guess is the occupancy rate has bottomed out and things will begin to improve...

We recently returned from our first stay at POR and we found it to be exquisite. I was a little disappointed that the boat to Downtown Disney was not operating. I was also a little disappointed that the mansions were closed when we checked in. We stayed in a corner room of building 27 in the alligator bayou area. At the time of our stay some of the bayou buildings were being re-roofed and painted. I loved the new paint colors. The mansions were not open when we checked in but there were people being moved into them during our stay. The condition of the resort was immaculate. One quite morning I strolled the grounds and found them to be in perfect condition, even in areas were the rooms were not being used. I also did not find any of the resort services to be lacking. One side of the drink station in the food court was closed but was not needed as there were never more than a few guests there. I viewed the fact that a lot of the resort rooms were not being used as a positive. There were few resort guest at the resort and it felt more exclusive and private. We enjoyed all of our previous stays at the All Stars but now that we've experienced POR we found it to be far superior. It is my new favorite resort, I would even choose it over AKL. I preferred the feeling of the small building in the alligator bayou over the large hotel feel of the AKL or All Stars. I felt as though I was in a cabin in the woods. I hope this helps.

Others posting on the board are saying that the mansions have opened again so it sounds like things are getting back to normal.

We were there from Frb3 through 12th. When we arrived they were just opening up the Mansions. It was very quiet the first few days, but was very busy by the time we left. We stayed in the Alligator Bayou bldg 15, it was very convenient and close to the main bus stop and the food court. The room and grounds were quite clean...not exceptional but not dirty. We tipped the maid every day and received whatever we asked for and there always was something special done for our daughter. Everthing was open and running except for the boat to Downtown Disney. The CM's were all hoping it would start again soon but didn,t think it would until POFQ opened again in the fall.
The bus service was excellant, the only slow trip with alot of stops was to DDD & Typhoon Lagoon because the bus went through Disney Institute as well. Overall I would recommend the resort. Our only other experience is ASM. I can't say the rooms are more comfortable but the resort itself is much nicer. That said I wouldn't pay more for it. We had a rate of $89.00 which was less than we payed at ASM in April '99.

We just love the piano player at Dixie. He had my kids lauging like crazy the last time we were there. I heard he was let go with the cuts. Does anyone know where he is or if he's coming back?
Thanks!:(
