Can anyone recommend a Broadway show?

loved Mamma Mia and Rock of Ages and agree probably good for the occassion.

Last year my mother gave me tickets for Jersey Boys for my 40th. I thought I would like it. But I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. It was soooo good, came home the next day and downloaded all the music to my IPOD lol,

music was great, story great funny. I would see it again tomorrow

Just as a side note I saw Wicked a couple of years ago w/ my daughter and I think we are the only 2 people that did not like it!!I had heard so much hype before the show so I don't know if that gave me false expections but by intermission we both ready to go!!

I have seen the following shows last year and here are my thoughts

Rock of ages-fun but sometimes the audience drinks and gets rowdy
Addams Family-so much fun. Nathan Lane and Bebe Newwurth SO good
Promises Promises-Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes were so funny.
Women o. The Verge- singing was great the rest of the show was horrid.
Memphis-awesome
Billy Elliott- wonderful
La Cage- LOVED IT. Cast amazing

Hope this helps

Lara

I've seen a few... Wicked, Jersey Boys, Billy Elliott, Young Frakenstein... but I LOVED Shear Madness. If it's playing around you, go! It's so much fun.

What about the new Spiderman musical? My good friend is playing the Green Goblin, and he is just raving about the whole performance. They are in previews for the next 6 weeks, so I don't know how that would fit in with your timing. The music should be right for your sisters. How can you go wrong with Bono and The Edge? I saw a clip of it on 60 Minutes Sunday night, and really wish I could get to NYC to see it!

UGH! I am so upset about Spiderman I could spit. We had tickets to opening night IN FEBRUARY! then got postponed. Then in June we were given our money back and the show was cancelled.
Then it's back on. Only we can't get opening night tickets anymore because they sold them already. (oh and the importance of opening night was for my friend who believed Bono would be in attendance)
I heard the first Trial run didn't go so smoothly . But I bet once they iron out all the kinks it'll be a fantastic show.

awww In the Heights is closing...... I enjoyed that show

If you go early january you can still see it... and it looks like members of the original cast are coming back for the final weeks... including the lead male who wrote the show!

I so badly want to see this, especially with Lin Manuel Miranda and many of the original cast. Alas, it doesn't seem meant to be. :sad1:

I saw Jersey Boys the day before Thanksgiving and it was fantastic. We had the understudy(W and Sat matinees) but he was incredible. It is a great story, but not sure if it was all true, they kept saying things are remembered differently by each person. but it was a great show.
We got our tickets at the TKTS booth. some of the shows that were available that I can relmember were:
Mary Poppins
Billy Elliot
Adams Family
Promises Promises
there were so many more but these were the ones that I wanted to see but my sister paid so we saw the one she wanted first.

Promises Promises is closing on January 2nd.

I thought Billy Elliot was great; I disliked the Addams Family (and I adore both Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth).

Avenue Q is a lot of fun, but definitely not for kids. Wicked is very good too.

I've seen most of these and my vote would be for Billy Elliot. It's really great!

Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages are all great.

American Idiot is my favorite of all time, I'm seeing it for the 8th time in January and Billie Joe Armstrong is going to be in the play during January and February. Unfortunately there are no discounts while he is in the show. It's not for everyone, have you heard the CD?

As I was reading this thread, I was thinking of you & your love of that show!

I've got nothing to add--I would have suggested Lion King but I see that you already saw it.

I haven't seen it, but I wish I could go to the Spiderman show.

REally, I can't imagine how they made this into a musical. Bono did the soundtrack so it maybe very good.

I couldn't see how the may Titanic into a musical either so, go figure.

I want to see Fela.

I'm seeing SpiderMan on December 12th, I'll let you know what I think :thumbsup2

Since you've seen Wicked and Mamma Mia, I will throw in another vote for Rock of Ages! My 14 yr old dd and I both loved it! It was so much fun. Liked it so much, I actually bought myself a Rock of Ages tour Jersey during intermission, after I bought my dd one before the show.
As far as the 18 year old being interested in Jersey Boys, it depends on the kid. My dd LOVES theater and music of all kinds and she would really like to see Jersey Boys, even though she knows next to nothing about Frankie Valli.

Thanks for the suggestions but my younger sister and I have seen Wicked already and my older sister wants to save it to see with her DD. Sorry, I should have mentioned that! Jersey Boys I forgot about and have heard wonderful things about it! But, will my 18 year old sister appreciate Frankie Valley? :rotfl:

It's Valli, with an "i"! :lmao::lmao: If you see the show you will know why I am saying this! I can't print it here, but it is a very funny line from the show!

Yes it is with an "i" and I did know that when I posted it and was too lazy to change it!!:lmao:

And yes I am very familiar with Green Day and that album. I have seen them in concert and have been a fan of theirs since the '90's!!! My little sister and I really want to see that show but our older sis, not so much. She just doesn't appreciate "our" kind of music!;)
