Can anyone recommend a Broadway show?

Wicked, Billy Elliott, Jersey Boys. Rock of Ages got good reviews as well.

What about the new Spiderman musical? My good friend is playing the Green Goblin, and he is just raving about the whole performance. They are in previews for the next 6 weeks, so I don't know how that would fit in with your timing. The music should be right for your sisters. How can you go wrong with Bono and The Edge? I saw a clip of it on 60 Minutes Sunday night, and really wish I could get to NYC to see it!

It looks so cool!! Ilike the music that I've heard so far. I hope to be able to see it.

Is Shrek still playing on Broadway? I haven't seen it, but heard it was fantastic.

I did see Jersey Boys on tour..........incredible..........& I had no interest in seeing it. I'd see it again in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, Shrek closed a couple of months ago... Which is a shame really, it looked amazing.

I've heard The Addams Family is supposed to be really good. Or how about Mamma Mia?

I saw Shrek. Eh. It was pleasant but that's about it.

Mamma Mia! One of my favorites. Rock of Ages and Jersey Boys as well. Heard the Addams family was great as well :) I don't think you could go wrong with anything you see!

Oh I loved Mama Mia and took my younger sister to see it a few years ago.

It stinks that Promises Promises is closing because I would have wanted to see that! Next to Normal too!

I am a huge U2 fan, see them live every time they are in NY/NJ but the reviews I have seen of Spiderman are pretty bad!

So my options now are:
Billy Eliot
Jersey Boys
Adams Family
Rock of Ages
La Cage

What about American Idiot?

Thank you all for all your help! Keep the suggestions coming please!

we just saw rock of ages (in boston, the touring company) and it was so much fun!

What about Mamma Mia or Phantom of the Opera? I'm nineteen and love both of these. :) Good luck finding a show to see wish I could head down to New York! :goodvibes

I saw Addams Family last week and it was really good. Nathan Lane is hilarious in it. My friends and I went after we couldnt get into Elf, we didn't know anything about the plot or songs but it was fine. We loved it.

adams family is on my list!!!

awww In the Heights is closing...... I enjoyed that show

If you go early january you can still see it... and it looks like members of the original cast are coming back for the final weeks... including the lead male who wrote the show!

Okay... I am going out on a limb here but what about Avenue Q? It is playing off Broadway as far as I know. Now... not knowing what your or your families' tastes or tolerance for rude humour are... it is a bit of a risk for me to suggest. We took our then 14 year old DS to see it when it came to Seattle a couple of years ago and we all loved it. But you have to be prepared for naughty language and puppet sex!!! :rotfl2:

Oh we can handle it! Totally our type of humor!:lmao:

Thanks for the suggestions but my younger sister and I have seen Wicked already and my older sister wants to save it to see with her DD. Sorry, I should have mentioned that! Jersey Boys I forgot about and have heard wonderful things about it! But, will my 18 year old sister appreciate Frankie Valley? :rotfl:

My oldest DD is a Broadway musical fanatic and loved Jersey Boys...she saw it twice in a row this year. :rotfl:

I saw Jersey Boys the day before Thanksgiving and it was fantastic. We had the understudy(W and Sat matinees) but he was incredible. It is a great story, but not sure if it was all true, they kept saying things are remembered differently by each person. but it was a great show.
We got our tickets at the TKTS booth. some of the shows that were available that I can relmember were:
Mary Poppins
Billy Elliot
Adams Family
Promises Promises
there were so many more but these were the ones that I wanted to see but my sister paid so we saw the one she wanted first.

Rock of Ages would probably really appeal to the 40 yo and the 18 yo would probably enjoy it too.

LOVED that show!! I am going to go see it again in January! What a fun show! We are going to see Wicked again in Jan. too- my daughter loved that one and got tickets again for her birthday.

Here's a vote for Billy Elliot. Fantastic performance by the child in the title role when we saw it in April. And it was what I'd consider a 'long' show - pushing 2:50 - which I prefer. If I'm paying $100+ for a ticket, I don't want to be in and out of the theatre too fast! Whatever you choose will be teriffic as we're believers that there's nothing to compare to the thrill of live musical theatre. Enjoy your trip!

I haven't SEEN it, but I have heard the soundtrack to American Idiot and I am very impressed. And I don't even LIKE Green Day. If you go on youtube you can see clips from the show, so you can gauge if it is a show you would want to see. If you hold out till February you can see How To Succeed in Business Without Really trying with Harry Potter...I mean Daniel Radcliffe!!! :lmao:
