My family and I are headed to the Fort for Christmas 2011. We were luckily able to get a campsite for our TT, but only in the full hook-up loops. Can anyone please recommend a site for us? Our camper is 21 ft long and we do not have a tent, only tow vehicle. Any suggestions would be very helpful bc this is our first trip in the camper to the Fort!!!! Thanks!!!!

Most of us here really like 1700. The sites are all good sized and it is pretty central.

Loop 1600 is our second choice. The concrete on those sites seems a bit narrower.

Loop 1800 and 1900 are terrible.

Agreed, we ask for 1600 by the canal/petwalk. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the suggestions and I will recommend the 1700 loop. Does in or out sites make a difference in the size and privacy?

Just trying to find the pros and cons of the loops...can you maybe help us with a few of them? thanks again

Obviously when making reservations you can ask to be assigned to a specific loop, and they will even note a specific favorite site. Many folks around here even swear by faxing a request a few days early.

Some things to keep in mind when making a reservation at Fort Wilderness. The folks who answer the phone (i.e. reservations cast members) have differing levels of expertise regarding Fort Wilderness. Think about it, there are tens of thousands of Disney hotel rooms fitting into a few categories such as Value, Moderate and Deluxe and most rooms, no mater what property have similar size rooms, room capacities and rules regarding the room. So, the reservations cast members have most of the information regarding rooms in their head. Except for the exceptional reservations cast members, for Fort Wilderness they usually read what is on the screen in front of them. You may need to guide them with your reservation as you may actually know more about the campground then they do. At the very least, make sure they note the following things in the comments for your reservation:

  • Type of camping unit (i.e. trailer, tent, motorhome/coach etc.)
  • Length of your entire rig including tow vehicles and toads
  • Number/location of all awnings
  • Number/location of all slides
  • Let them know if you have pets

Now, with that said I will give you my personal opinion. Make your site/loop request known when you make your reservation so they can note it on your reservation. You are much better off requesting the things you like about the site/loop rather than the site/loop itself. For example, if you like the site because it is near a comfort station, then request that, if you like it because it is in the back of the loop and is quieter request that. The problem with asking for a specific site/loop is that the site assigners really don't know why you wanted that site/loop. If your request is not available they really don't know what you might find as a comparable site.

I like the 1900 loop because it is in the back with no pet walk access through the loop. To be walking around on the back side of the 1900 loop you really want to be there. I just find it much quieter with less foot traffic.

Now, my final opinion is that there are very few "bad" sites at FW. I have always been very happy with any site they gave us.

This is why asking for recommendations really doesn't work. The 1900 loop is our favorite. Different folks like different things.

For a 21' TT or pop up it might be an ok loop. For a 5th wheel it sucks. I just left 1911 this morning. I have been assigned there the last 2 Thanksgiving Weekends as well. I had 1909 and 1911 respectively. It's like asking for 1500 and getting 2000 loop. Some of the outside sites are ok but the middle looks like a big hole in the ground. I told the front desk if I ever get assigned 1900 again and they can't put me in another f/h I will leave.

About the only thing I will give the 1900 is it's fairly quiet as far as being away from bus traffic and boat horn noise. I watched a guy in a 5th wheel wrestle into the 2nd site on the left the other night for what seemed to be an hour. There is a fence in front of the comfort station and it's right along the road making it tough to back a trailer into. I even wrote a note to the site assigner with a pic telling them how hard it is to get in those sites.

Great infomation and thanks for all your input. I will be sure to let you all know what site we end up with and post pictures. Thanks once again.
