Hi guys,
I hope it is ok to post this in this thread.
My partner and I are coming to celebrate our 10 year anniversary in May/June and also doing Gay Days.
I am in an absolute quandry over which resort to pick. I had settled on Coronado Resort as it was reasonably priced and appeared to have a hotel vibe to it but the latest reviews on tripadvisor are quite scathing and now I am not too sure.
I would dearly love to stay at the Contemporary Resort but ruled that out initially as it would cost us approx $2000US for the five nights which is hard to justify (especially to my Hubs as he does not want to pay more than $200US per night).
I would like to stay somewhere that feels like a holiday, so a nice pool, maybe one with a bar that you can enjoy cocktails by and one that is pretty easy to get to the Magic Kingdom from would be preferred.
My heart says 'Do it!!! You will most likely never get to stay here again coming from Australia' but my head says 'Think of the extra money you can spend on everything else - it's just a room'.
I know only my Hubs and I can really decide, but what are your thoughts? Any suggestions on hotels would be most appreciated by you good folk.
Thanks
Brett

I would recommend the Carribean Beach Resort or the Port Orleans French Quater. They've both got a very relaxing vibe, and they're in the same price category as Coronodo Springs (which I wouldn't recommend to any of my friends, but do know others that have enjoyed it).

My partner and I were staying at Carribean Beach on the trip where we met each other, so it's a sentimental favorite of mine. For that reason I know that strolls along the beach there can be quite romantic.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful trip!

I agree with the other posters regarding the recommended moderates, but wanted to let you know of a possible discount if your heart is set on the Contemporary.

This is from the mousesavers.com website, the lady who runs it is very connected to discounts (and is a good resource for Disney travel). I don't know if these rates are better than what you were quoted, or if the dates are an exact match.

We recently made a reservation for December 2011, and I "think" the Contemporary end up being $225 per night with our discount. We will be staying at the Contemporary our next trip, because our baby will be approximately 7 months old at that time (we can walk from MK to Contemporary and not have to worry about transportation--key for nap time and baby melt downs).

Best of luck, no matter what you decide. :)

See, i MUCH prefer Coronado over Caribbean, but that's the thing about Disney is everyone will find what they like

Hubby and I are POFQ/POR junkies -- the only reason we don't book there is that we bought DVC. POFQ is going through referb right now and they are changing the double beds to queens which is a bonus in my eyes! The resort is quaint and no building is far from the main building/buses. POR, especially AB section also has a vibe hubby and I love.

I suggest taking your time to look at pictures, etc. You can go to Allears.net and see a lot of photos and just go with the one that your gut says "I gotta stay there".

Before we bought DVC we always looked at the Poly and Contemporary but never could justify the price ((LOL don't ask how we ended up buying DVC))

try the WL they are very reasonable we will be there may 27 to june 3rd, got a great deal, It looks very nice. I hope so.. give them a call:surfweb:

Thanks so much everyone - your advice has been very good. Hmmm with 35% off it does look more inviting. I will give them a call tomorrow.
Thanks so much again everyone.

Hubs and I decided to book AKL in the end. This is funny because it wasn't one that I was into but I showed him the planning dvd and he quite liked the look of it, so we compared all the rates and got a good deal for a Club Level room.
Thanks for all your help everyone.
We are both very excited now!!
:cheer2:

WOOHOO Great news -- don't forget to bring decorations and decorate your room :P :P ((SHHHHH don't let jackskellingtonsgirl know I said that ***runs**))

PS: I am only kidding on the decorating...

My wife and I often stay at the Port Orleans French Quarter it's a great hotel with it's own dedicated buses. I like the Caribbean Beach but it is a giant resort. Coronado is far away from everything and it's a conference hotel with a nice pool. I also like the Boardwalk hotel although that will run you around the same as the Contemporary.
Good luck,
Dee

Yup. Jackskellingtonsgirl gets all warm and fuzzy inside when people decorate their doors while at AKL....

I see my very helpful friends are busy assisting you with a "What NOT TO DO" list. Continue ignoring them. They like to irritate me. :rolleyes1

Ok cool guys great, we have our glue guns, sequins, tinsel, mickey posters, ( a jack skellington poster for jsg for our room door), a crock pot, a hot plate, my old refillable mug from 1975 (that I ALWAYS bring back for free refills) and I am gonna come on here and complain that my room was sooooooo far away from the lifts..... looks like we are ALL set! Woohoo!!!
