So, this is totally off topic, but I'm starting a small business and I really need help coming up with a name. Here's the basic story:

Okay, here's my story -- I recently moved to North Georgia and I live in a subdivision where there are apparently lots of wealthy folks. I've also learned that many small businesses are lacking in a lot of administrative areas. So, I'm planning to start a virtual assistant type business that will serve individuals (ie. my wealthy neighbors) and small to mid-sized businesses.

I've been an executive assistant for some very high maintenance CEO's in my past - I also have extensive experience in marketing, event planning, PR, business development, etc.

I want to provide a wide ranges of services from marketing to web design to event planning, travel planning, in office services - pretty much anything people need.

But I don't know what to name my business! If anyone has any ideas, I would be forever in your debt. I love plays on words and I'm also considering a possible name related to the area (North Georgia). But I'm so bad at coming up with this stuff. If it was for someone else, I'd have 100 ideas, but since it's for me...nothing!

I'll take any ideas and I know ya'll are really creative. :thumbsup2

You say 'North Georgia'. Are we talking about rural north GA or the Atlanta area? Would you be catering to executives? Are you looking for something classy for private services or giving it a corporate flavor? That can make a difference in how you package and name it.

Wow, that's amazing. I had the very same idea, but someone beat me to it here. They are aiming themselves at municipal governments though and have called themselves Civic Solutions. You could change it up a bit and call yours Business Solutions or Admin Solutions or something similar. I know it's not very flashy or anything , but it gets the point across.

Well, I'm about an hour north of Atlanta. It's sort of rural around here, but I'm close to some decent sized cities, like Gainesville. I don't think I'll market to Atlanta, at least not right away. It's probably more competitive there and I think there is enough opportunity in the smaller towns closer to me for a one-woman show. Of course, I may want to expand if I can make a go of it, but I can alway create another company for more executive clients.

That said, it's hard because I want to provide personal services to upscale local residents and business services - but I'd like to keep it under one business name. I think I'll create different marketing materials for business services and personal services - but I'd like to create one website for all of it. And, I'd like to tie them together because a lot of people who live by me who may use me for personal services are also business owners, so I think there may be a lot of opportunity for one kind of service to lead into business for other services as well.

If they are doing municipal governments, I bet there's still a niche out there for you somewhere! There are a lot of people here who do home watching services, but I want to offer so much more than that. What's strange is this community has a wedding chapel that's booked out a year in advance and there is NO ONE marketing wedding planning services. How crazy is that? I'm looking into that too. ;)

What about (since it sounds like you mostly want to work from home) "Virtual Girl Friday" or "Virtually Your Assistant" (kinda kidding) ? :rotfl:

when I think of more I will post again :)

Those are cute. When I read it, I thought I could call it Virtually Yours...but then I realized that could have a totally different connotation.

OK, I was thinking something culturally relevant. I have friends who started up private engineering firms and they used terms like 'Blue Grass" and "Magnolia' in their company names.

One thing to make sure of is to do a little homework on similar companies that might offer all or part of the services you are planning to offer. Just make sure your name is clearly distinct from them. If you pick a name of another company that is in a totally different field, you have much less to worry about.

Would something like 'At Your Service' work? It's a bit of a catch-all and doesn't restrict you demographically or geographically.

I was thinking "At Your Service" but wondered the same thing as "Virtually Yours"

Good luck. I named my business 15 years ago--it is a big decision.

See! I knew I'd come up with something! I actually have been trying to come up with something regional when I'd read the post but my brain fell aleep on the first try

Yeah, I know what you mean, my brain falls asleep often...and without warning. :rotfl2:

I would try to make it something that starts with "A" so it can be the first one in the phone book under your type of services, you will get more calls that way. Maybe you should look in the phone book to see what catergory you fit into?

I like some of the previous posters suggestions! Perhaps "At Your Service Admin" or somthing like "Administrative and Corporate Consulting Expert"

I think people need to understand what you do, from the title, does that make sense? I like having administrative in there, but it doesn't put out the fact that you can also do event planning, marketing etc etc. It might limit the calls you get.

Here are some words that may held lend thought to a title
Administrative
Freelance
Corporate
Event Planning
Marketing
Personal Assistant
Consultant

I cant think of anything cute, you need to make somthing to the point, but catchy and cute will help people remember! I wish I had that creative gene.

"Your Girl Friday"
"Your Brother's Keeper"
"All About You" Personal and Administrative Assistant Service

ADMINISTAR

dang it all. there is already a company with that name.

and its funny that it helps companies going through bankruptcy. Kind of the opposite of your goals.

I like using my name in the company name. Something about customers hearing it, they know they are talking to someone important as opposed to a generic employee.

so maybe something like:

Mcbain Management Services
"Doing what you need done right"
