Don't worry - I'm not asking anyting technical like "why it rains". It's just we are going for 3 weeks at the end of August/beginning of September and I m fully prepared for rain.

I was just wondering whether it is usually the rain that stops you doing something like visiting a waterpark or whether the rain is kind of warm so you could still swim etc??

I appreciate there are sudden downpours where you need to run for cover but I was just curious whether anyone had experienced "run for cover" rain every day of their trip that stopped them getting a lot of things done??

From my experieince the fun goes on when it is raining unless in a water park pool. Often these are closed as rain often comes with lightining which is a real threat in florida.

When in apark many will head for a shop, tea break or find a ride/theatre queue inside. The sun returns and everything is dry quickly. Having said that we were really unlucky last year because we had six straight days of rain in May !

July and August are the really heavy rainfall months. Late August and into September is typically drier. There is always the risk of a shower, but generally they are quick and HEAVY and only last 20 minutes or so. Last year's weather was wierd though - everywhere!!! and I dont know that we can use specifically last year's weather history as a prediction. You need to look at the historical patterns for Orlando weather over the last few years.

I have been twice in the first two weeks in September. Mostly showers are over quickly however we have experienced few lighting storms and heavy rain that have lasted hours and they usually shut down the pools and some of the rides.

The rain usually comes in the afternoons, and it can be brief and heavy or last for a few hours and still be heavy.

As long as the storm is not electrical (with lightning) and there is no lightning reported anywhere in the near vicinity, the fun will continue including in the pool. We have been at TL many a times when it has started raining, and stayed exactly where we were, leaving only if and when the lightning gets too close. Then you have no choice but to leave. But the fun will continue, have no fear!

Now we keep out of it as much as we can. One year we got soaked through in AK expecting it to stop and it didn't. As a result we felt extremely cold and this was in July or August. Now we avoid it and head to a mall. We always cover up with a mac if we do have to walk in it. We usually go in July or August.

During our many visits, August 2008 was the worst rain we have ever seen. :scared1: The tropical storms lasted for a few days and they even waived the fees on the toll roads.
It cools it down quite a lot, which the locals welcome. Overall it did not prevent us from doing anything, maybe just a slight change of plan :)

As others have said the storms bring torrential rain, normally late in the afternoon or early evening, how long they last can depend.

Some attractions will close, and if like us you are unlucky enough to be at Discovery Cove then you could face quite a long wait.

Thanks for all your responses. I will have to prepare to be flexible with our plans which will be so out of character for me :scared1:
