Murgies Beach Adventure
behind the Ears Tour
Pirates of the Calibogue
Gyotako
Sea Island Shakers & Sticks
Long View Cooking Club
I know whoooo you are & what you ate last night
Beach Soccer
Arts & Crafts - Butterfly ???
A Private Affair

HH frontdesk was kind enough to fax the activity schedule but it is extremely difficult to read the fax copy.

Any first hand experience would be appreciated. The children in our group are 7, 8 & 12.

I'll give this one a shot. Here's the ones I relatively sure about!

Murgies Beach Adventure - I'm assuming this is similar to Murgies Marsh Adventure, where little ones tramp through the marsh

behind the Ears Tour - tour of the resort w/history and hidden mickey's

Gyotako - this is fish painting (yes, real dead fish) Kids put paint on the fish and then press it onto a t-shirt. Both my kids loved this one!

A Private Affair - A private dinner prepared by Chef Gordon

I know whoooo you are & what you ate last night - kids take owl pellets (you know, the stuff that gets stuck in their gizzards and eventually spit back out) and disect them to see what's inside.

Arts & Crafts - Butterfly ??? - These would be the butterfly houses. They also make crab catchers. Kids paint the houses or catcher handle and put them together.

Long View Cooking Club - This is another Chef Gordon event. They have a Cheese and Wine pairing and there's another one too (desserts?) that I can't recall.

Pirates of the Calibogue - I *think* this is like a storytime thing. If it's listed near the Campfire time, then it's a really cool storytelling of pirates at the campfire.

Now note - I haven't actually done any of these or had kids that did them, so I could be a bit off track, but I'm pretty sure about these. We were there for a week and some of the other parents in our party looked into some of these, though since the oldest kid was 4, none did any of them.

One thing that kids the age of yours might really enjoy are the pool games! They seem to have them every day at the resort pool sometime around 1-2. We watched a few and everyone involved seemed to be having a blast. The ones at the Beach House pool looked like a lot of fun, too.

Mur!

After reading some glowing reviews of HH, I thought I'd learn a little more about it for a future visit. On Disney's web site (DVC- HH- Activities) they have a brief description of many of these.

I'm wondering at what age kids can enjoy many of these activities (I plan WAY ahead). Is there a lot to do for say a 3 or 4 year old?

Jeffrey,
While I haven't been to HH (plan to next year), we have been to VB. I am assuming they are very similar when it comes to their kids activities. I have a 7 and 5 year old. At VB, there were many activities for 7 and older. They always encouraged my then 4 year old to participate as long as a parent stayed. Again, I am just assuming that HH would be the same way. I would, of course, always ask first.

As a side note, I was very surprised at VB how many adults signed up for the kids crafts. Especially anything that was done on tee shirts. As a matter of fact, a few were complaining because they didn't have any adult shirts!

We were at HH last month, so I'll give a couple of these a shot.

Pirates of the Calibogue: We did this activity and had a blast! We met in Community Hall and were assigned to teams with different colored pirate flags. B'lou Crabbe told the story of Strozzi's treasure and instructions on how to do the hunt for the treasure. You get a map and a clue to find the first little treasure chest with the next clue. You end up going through pretty much the entire resort going from clue to clue and end up back at Community Hall with a key. There are 5 teams and 5 keys to open the chest at the end, so you have to wait till all teams come back. In the meantime, there are CM's dressed as pirates that will try to shanghai members of your team. I believe you can get them back out if you can answer a question, sing a song, etc. It's really a lot of fun. Oh, you also get a paper pirate hat to wear and the kids also get an eyepatch. When the chest is opened, it has some 'treasure' inside and everyone gets a piece of it.
My DS9 enjoyed this, but fell on the walkway trying to avoid getting shanghai'd 'whatever that is, Mom'. LOL So, we had to make a side trip with the CM that tried to catch him to get bandaids and console the poor CM because she felt so bad that he'd fallen.

Sea Island Shakers and Sticks: This is a craft where you make decorated rhythm sticks to use in the One Fine Day Promenade.

Hope this helps you some. Enjoy!

Great descriptions on all of these! Chef Gordon was our guide last week on the Behind the Ears tour. Brian is the naturalist and is a wonderful guide (did the bird and nature walks- well worth it). My 4 and 6 year old LOVED the fish-tshirt painting. The BEST part about it, according to my 6-year old DS, was that they got to assist in the "launching" the "sleeping fish" back into the marsh with the lifeguards (I will post pictures of it later- I am visiting my sick grandmother and am hijacking her computer!)......it was, well, really, really funny!

All the activities were well worth any charge (fish painting, murgies marsh, kayaking, etc). I am still in disbelief that they did not charge for the pirate adventure, the magic show (Well worth it- more of a storytelling), the stories, and especially the music programs. The Tuesday night All-American BBQ with late night (8-9) sliding on the pool was a riot. Life guards had EVERYONE up and dancing and threw any willing victims into the pool (and had a great ability to determine who might be reluctant and reassure them).

This is a real hidden find for Disney. We were reluctant at first to get involved in the activities program- and as a result we missed a couple of opportuniites. These programs are very, very high quality. The adminstrative staff and CM's of HH are first rate. They should all be making Eisner-level salaries as compensation!

We will be there 8/25 and you are all getting me very excited!! We are joiners so we will be taking advantage of anything they offer. Especially the free things :0

My DD 5 participated in Gyotaku which at first she was afraid of the fish. It's a pretty big dead fish. But she did paint it all pretty colors and then we put the t-shirt on and the imprint was real nice. You can also write their name and say "2002" or something else on the shirt as well. My daughter loves that shirt and wears it as a nightshirt because we got the size that was just too big for her. She also really enjoyed Kid's night out. The CM's feed the kids pizza, then they take them to a movie at the local cinema. 3 hours total time 6-9pm. My daughter loved it. They saw "Spirit". We also participated in the One Fine Day Promenade. We went to B'Lou Crabbe's Magic show and we always participated in Campfire. It was great fun. I would also highly recommend the Dolphin Discovery tour. Lots of fun to be had at Hilton Head. We rate this resort very highly.
