We have never been to Vero beach, but we want to go. Since it is Disney, I know we will have high expectations. I also know that isn't CC, but will it be close to being as fun and 'magicial' as CC?

Although alot of people may disagree with me, Vero Beach does not come close to comparing with Castaway Cay!

Don't get me wrong, Vero Beach is a lovely resort with a gorgeous swimming pool and nice planned activities, but the beach itself is not large and the water gets deep very quickly. We were there after a storm (not a hurricane, though) and it seemed nearly everyone just hung out by the pool. But as far as beach activities, swimming, snorkeling, etc., Castaway Cay is far superior. I guess that's why we just get one day to spend there!

I think it would be comparing apples to oranges....just my opinion!!

Both are nice but very different.

I have to agree with the other 2 posters.....Vero is nice, but Castaway is NO comparison!! The beach at Vero is very nice but that is just it...it's just your regular Florida beach. Castaway is a beautiful caribbean island of pleasure with everything you can dream of. At Vero you can rent boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas and have a great time on the beach. Hubby and I love to walk it and look for unique shells. The water does get deep fast so becareful. People even bring floats and tubes so it's what you make of it. As for Castaway....it's Disney's private island and they aime to please so activity wise it's no comparison and the water is just so gorgeous there!!

Castaway Cay is great because of the beach. There really isn't anything else there but beach and beach-type activities.

Vero Beach is great because of the resort and the resort facilities. The beach, IMO, is nothing special. In fact, when we have stayed at Vero we have rarely used the beach. We love the pool and the campfire program. The resort's activities are lots of fun too. We like to walk on the beach but we never swim there.

I agree that it's like comparing apples to oranges...but I love both places.

I was born and raised in Vero, and I've been to Castaway Cay twice, so I feel qualified to weigh in on this question ;)

Like some others have said, Vero is your typical Florida beach. The DVC resort is beautiful, but it's not as intense an experience as Castaway Cay. Vero is more about relaxing. I would say Vero is closer to Serenity Bay than to the family beach at CC. The environment at Vero is a little different though; you won't have the crystal clear water like in the Bahamas. Also, depending on what time of year you're there, they sometimes have a high level of jellyfish or seaweed in the water. So, bring a good book and plan on de-stressing while you're there.

This post really interests me because my DD6 and I will be in Vero the week after Easter. It will be our 1st time there, but we have been to Castaway Cay 3 times. My main goal in going to Vero is to rest and relax. I'm glad to hear the other posters say that this is the best thing to do at Vero.

One question...can you sign up for children's activities ahead of time or do you wait until you get there? Any suggestions on good activites?

I personally don't like Vero Beach. I much prefer the Gulf of Mexico which reminds me of Castaway Cay.
