We like the walkie talkies--and we use them at crowded times without problem--such as Easter this year. Ours are Southwestern Bell models. But whatever make I'd suggest you get these 2 features: 1) vibrating option. Sometimes it's so loud at various places that you can't hear the ringer. Also, if you set it just to vibrate you can leave it on during shows, etc. 2) Get the model that has the extra channels. Ours have 22 main channels. But each main channel has 38 sub channels. The combination is something like 800 available channels. We just pick a pretty obscure setting like channel 18 subchannel 27. Nobody else is on--or if there is a problem just change to the next subchannel. The advantage to the walkie talkies is we have 4 of them (for 6 of us).
