I hope this makes sense :teacher:

Use Year 2005
160 points - 160 points (banked to 2006) = 0 points

Use Year 2006
160 points + banked 160 points (2005 UY) = 320 points
320 points – 165 points (HHI vacation) = 155 points
155 points + 88 points (borrowed 2007 UY) = 243 points
243 points – 88 points (rented) = 155 points

Use Year 2007
160 points
160 points – 88 points (borrowed to 2006 UY) = 72 points

Why does the DVC website say I have 155 points in the 2006 use year but only 147 points available to bank into the 2007 use year? I cannot figure it out. :confused3

Were the 88 points you borrowed the same 88 points you rented?
You can't bank borrowed points.
Are you still in your 100% banking window?
Did you borrow points while you still had some left in 2006 UY?
I think we need a little more info to figure it out.

I'm not clear why you borrowed points when you already had enough points in your contract to make a reservation - but it appears that MS used 8 current points for one of your reservations and you still have 8 either banked or borrowed points unused of your 155 remaining points in the 2006 Use Year.

I would call MS and ask them to review the utilization of the points in your account. I'm sure they can straighten out any discrepancy.

You'll need to make sure that all of the banked points from 05 and all of the borrowed points from 07 are used for the reservations you already have made BEFORE using any of your current points (which can still be banked- based on banking deadlines).

If these are all from one resort, it should be easily straightened out (although it still doesn't make sense how you borrowed points from 2008 when you still had 155 points available in 2007 - IMO borrowing points for a rental is an unneccesary risk). If the points come from two different resorts, then it may be more difficult to rearrange points since the 11 month priority may come into play.

Good luck! :)

I have an August use year at SSR. I borrowed points to make a reservation for 243 points in January. I got a new job so we had to cancel that reservation. I then rented the borrowed points since we won't be going on vacation before August 2007.

I know I could call MS but I'm a visual person. If I can read the answer it is a lot less confusing to me than someone explaining it over the phone.

Also, I thought they automatically used borrowed points first. It still says I have the same 72 points in my 2007 UY that I've had since I first borrowed for the original reservation. Wouldn't that change if they used my points improperly?

If you borrowed 88 points from your 2007 Use Year's total of 160 points, you should have 72 points still there. That number should not change until you borrow or make a reservation that requires those points.

The 88 borrowed points are no longer part of your 2007 Use Year and they will no longer appear in that Use Year on the website.

The discrepancy you are questioning can only be answered by MS. It's obvious that 8 of your current points have been used for one of your reservations. MS will usually use banked and/or borrowed points first for a reservation, but it does not always happen that way. Members do need to take the responsibility to instruct MS how to use the points in our accounts.

If you want a visual accounting of your account, you can request a printout of your account activity that will show how the points are used. These can be a little challenging to follow at times, but they are available. In this case, a call to MS can probably explain how the points have been used and can also probably make changes if necessary.

Good luck!

Thanks Doc.

I called MS and just asked why I could only bank 147 points. She put me on hold for 10 minutes, got back on the phone, and then said I could bank all 155 points now. I thought I was going to have to try explaining every detail but it worked well.

I should leave well enough alone but what I still don't get is this: If they used the 8 point reservation on my 2007 points, I would only have 64 points left, not 72. So I think they made a mistake and doubled my borrowed points when I changed the reservation. I made a reservation using 8 borrowed points but my account then stated I had 16 borrowed points, instead of 8. (I rented to two people at 80 points and 8 points).

From your prior post, I understood that you borrowed points only once- for the trip scheduled for January, 2007. The 88 borrowed points reduced your 2007 points to 72 - and that has not changed since.

When you later cancelled the January trip, all of the points were returned to your account including the 88 borrowed points.

You subsequently rented reservations and all but 8 of the borrowed points were apparently used ( and more importantly, 8 current points were used) leaving your current 2006 Use Year with 155 points- 147 current (which could be banked) and the 8 borrowed points which could not.

When you called MS today, they realized what had been done and reallocated the points used substituting the 8 borrowed points and returning all current points to your 2006 Use Year. All of those points may now be banked for use in your 2007 Use Year (along with the 72 remaining points).

Since you only borrowed points one time, the remaining balance never changed and was correct all along. The only thing in question was the number of current point remaining in your account.

Be sure to specify that you want to use those 155 points (assuming you bank them into 2007) first before using any of the 72 points that remain in your 2007 Use Year.

I'm glad MS was able to work everything out for you so your account balances as you expected. Enjoy!

Thanks for breaking it down "Sesame Street style" (as my husband would say :) ). I get it now.
