I'm interested is sending a few prepared meals to a friend across the country. Any recommendations?

I noticed no one responded so I'll give you my best advice for what's it's worth (free). Google search caterers in your friend's area. I know a caterer in my area that always has meals to go for families and singles. It seems to be very popular and she delivers. It's worth a shot and you'll know that your friend is getting a fresh and home cooked type meal.

Someone told me today.......Schwan's. If they are in their area.

Check local restaurants/caterers online. I think that's your best bet.

Schwan's isn't ready made - it's frozen grocery-type stuff as far as I know -- we received some for Christmas this year.

If you're looking for something like Blue Apron or Plated (where you prepare the ingredients they send), we've tried nearly all of them and like HelloFresh and SunBasket best.

I was going to say the same thing.

We have ordered from Schwan's for years.

They are basically frozen food. Not prepared meals, at all.

Think Stouffer's.

Hey I think I read a blurb somewhere that Giant Eagle (grocery store)was going to start doing this in some test markets. I didn't pay much attention because it isn't anything I'd be interested in, but I'd check grocery stores, they all seem to be getting into the prepared food business.

If you are trying to do the equivalent of dropping off a casserole for someone who lives too far away to be able to drop off the home cooked meal yourself, I would second trying to find a local catering company - its going to come closest to the experience of having someone make dinner for you when you are too busy/stressed to take care of yourself. Meal delivery boxes (blue apron, hello fresh etc) require a lot of prep, usually, which doesn't sound like what you're looking to do. If you can't come up with a catering company, how about finding a restaurant that is local to them that would deliver, then sending them a gift card (with an accompanying note that you would like to make them dinner, but the distance makes that impossible).

When my DD was born (she was a preemie and it was crazy) someone sent us some frozen dinners - it was a sweet gesture, but they were actually kinda gross. I was super appreciative of the random casserole meals, and was happy to eat pretty much anything I didn't have to figure out for myself.

With the roll out of Uber eats and other services you may find you can call restaurant near to the area you want to send and have Uber Eats deliver it for you.

Yes, Schwans stuff is frozen, but they do sell frozen prepared meals, and they will ship their products anywhere in the U.S. packed in dry ice like Omaha steaks does. Meals like Roasted turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet and sour chicken, lasagna, chicken bake, pot roast, sliced beef with mashed potatoes. Take a look and see if these are something like you are looking for.

Freshly is one option but I know they do not ship to my area. When I wanted to ship prepared foods to someone, i Googled places in their area and found a few options for places that did this.

Once was for my boss. I found a place relatively close to her, they delivered to her and even offered to put the food away for her in her fridge or freezer. I was able to get ready made meals that were frozen or refrigerated, my choice.

Even some catering places will provide this service.

If all else fails Honeybaked hams is a good option. The hams and turkey breasts are already cooked and you can add sides.

I purchased a lot of food gifts for my mother and I usually get it from QVC. But, besides the cookies, fruit, etc., most things not to be cooked. I get the most simple things for my mother such as chicken parm, chicken pot pie...things like that. Another go to that my mom loves is Wolvermans. She really enjoys their English muffins and breads.

My DH and I just started Freshly and it it has been great! Each meal is for 1 person so keep that in mind when ordering.

I would probably find out their favorite take out place and get them gift certificates from there. Or find out what's nearby and do it that way. I wouldn't mind some free Cheesecake Factory GCs.
