Can an adult order off the kid's menus?

My DD 13 has always been an extremely light and picky eater. At 13, she is teeny tiny petite (5'0" and about 80 pounds). When she turned ten and up until our last trip in April of 2010 when she was 12, we forced her to order off the adult menus, but most of the time she just picked at her food. Then, she would fix her something to eat once we got back to our 1 bedroom Villa.

Since that time, she has been diagnosed with leukemia. Two of the different chemos used to treat her cancer have severely damaged her GI tract. She is now tube fed via pump 24/7 through a g-tube. We are slowly weaning her off this and she is just now (almost one year post DX and still on treatment until April 2013), beginning to eat small amounts of "real" food. We hope for her to be tolerating real food more by our trip (March 31-April 7 2012), but are pretty sure she won't be eating enough or feeling up to eating the adult meals. Will we be able to order her meal off of the kid's meals at TS locations?

I would contact the Disney "disabilities" department, as I would consider this to be a reasonable accomodation for a specific medical need. Federal Law enacted this to insure that special needs would be accomodated if they did not pose a signifigant hardship for those providing the accomodation...putting more food on a plate should not be a problem.

Congradulations on your daughter's improving health!:cheer2:

Have an amazing trip!:flower3:

In general it would probably be fine. If she doesn't eat a lot I'm not sure why you need adult portions. You may want to try checking on the DisABILITIES board if it is the portion you are most interested in, to see if her medical condition will make a difference as to how restaurants handle this, because I am not sure all restaurants will usually provide an adult portion, although most if not all will allow ordering from the child's menu. If you don't need adult portions, just order her a kids meal.

True.

I reread my post and realized I worded the question wrong. She really does not eat much at all and I was really just wanting to know if it's okay for someone who Disney considers an adult to order off the children's menu.

I'll definitely ask over on the Disabilities board as well.

We do have two buffets planned (Chef Mickey's and Trails End--but those could change, we're still in our early planning stages.

If you are asking if you will be able to pay a child's price at the buffets based on the fact that she eats very little, I don't think so - but check that with the DisABILITIES board.

I'm not sure about the buffets, but several years ago I went on a trip with my dance team. One of the girls on the team didn't have a medical condition or anything, but she was a very picky eater and she was able to order off the child's menu just fine at TS restaurants.

I'm an adult that's a picky eater and I have ordered off the kid's menu with no problem at counter and table service restaurants. I don't see it being an issue for your daughter. Also as people have said contact the disability boards and maybe call disney and ask what the policy is.

good luck!

 I do not know the answer to this, but I wanted to write that I wish your precious daughter a speedy recovery.

i've ordered from the children's menu at TS and CS restaurants (other than buffets, where adults have to pay the adult price no matter how picky they are)..

I was just reading in another source that people that have had gastric bypass surgery could, with specific information from their doctor, pay the child price at buffets. Not all sources on WDW are accurate and it is not the same as what your daughter is going through but its worth a try.

It's good to hear that your daughter is doing better.

I don't have any useful info regarding your question, but want to wish your daughter a continued speedy recovery! :goodvibes

Thanks!

We still have plenty of time to decide on ADR's, so I may decide to drop the two buffets we have planned and stick with order off the menu locations only.

I think you will be fine. Most servers wont blink twice when you ask them, and if they do, just ask if you can have the child's menu item, and pay extra. My friend orders kids meals at wdw all the time and never has an issue. If it is an issue you could speak with a manager, and I would bet good money that they would consider it an acception. I hope your daughter is feeling better and that you all enjoy your trip.
