Hi guys. It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I'm glad I'm back. As much as I've been to Disney and I think I know about WDW, I've never planned a vacation before!! I've met a wonderful Man and come to find out..he loves Disney too!!!!:love::love: He even says that every child born needs to have something Disney in their nursery!! Love this man!!

But, I was wondering if we could have a vacay under $2,000 while staying on property. I mean I know that would include value resorts and base tickets..but I was just wondering if there were any other tricks to it..

You guys have always been great on giving me advice and so I figure this is the best thread/forum to ask because you guys are always soo nice!! Also, would it be cheaper or about the same price if I was to book a Disney cruise?? Thanks for any advice!!!

I think it's doable if you go in the off season and depending how long you stay. Obviously you'd want to limit your table service meals too.

Definitely possible. Teresa did a family of 4 for under $2500 as a running segment on the podcast a few years ago. 2010 maybe?

DD and I do Mother/Daughter trips for less than $2000- we usually stay a week. We stay offsite, so our cost is less than onsite. Our average cost breakdown:

-hotel (7 nights, Hotwire 3* ): $360
-tickets (UT 7 day base, no hopping): $522
-food (2 meals/day, 3 TS, rest CS): $450
-souvenirs: $50
-gas, 40 gallons @$4/gal (round trip from NC, plus in town driving): $160
-parking: $98

TOTAL: $1640

If you stay onsite, add about $340 to the hotel, but take off the parking fees- total would be $1882

first go to special offers tab on far right. it brings up "spring offer" magic your way thru march i think... click there pick your dates..mine not being till june but discount still worked. i got allstar music for may 28th,29th,30th.31st for 85.60 a night fri june 1st and sat june 2nd for 123.20 a night....then june 3rd,4th,and 5th for 103.20 a night then i went and added 10 days of park tickets and quick serve dining...total cost was 2039.94 for 10 days of disney.... that's pretty close to your 2000 quest.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful advice!!! I'm going to look into all of these things!! Also, what are some romantic places to eat or do for couples?? Are we allowed to pack a picnic and eat on the beach or something like that?? I just want this to be really special for his first time going there!!

As other have said, yes, absolutely. We have done a number of 8-10 night trips, free dining, POP etc. that come in under 2k for 2 adults AND 2 kids. Yes, it is very, very possible, and one of the reasons we choose Disney year after year over pretty much everything else. Heck, our last week long trip to the Jersey Shore cost us what a 10 day trip to WDW did a few years ago!

DH and I like to go to the Boardwalk for dinner and then just wander around the resort area after dinner. We might even stay until 9 and watch Illuminations from the bridge near Epcot International Gateway.

It is also fun to rent a little 2-person speedboat and tool around Seven Seas Lagoon.

Watching the evening fireworks on the Poly beach is also really romantic- they pipe the music in, and there are a few hammocks around to cuddle up in. I would think it's OK to bring a snack out to the beach (I'm sure someone else will post if it isn't).

We just did it last year, starting the day before Labor Day...got a good rate at a AS Music, base tickets (that we upgraded to Park Hoppers once we got there), with free QS dining....for $1,443.00. Travel was extra, but yes, it can be done. Oh, and we stayed for 8 days.

Have fun planning !!!

Definitely do-able! My suggestion is renting DVC points. This way you get deluxe accomidations at moderate (or value!) prices.

You can also get under $2000 with discount codes. My hubby and I did a 6 day trip for 3 adults 1 "junior" with FD at Coronado for right at $2000. Obviously with less people it would be even cheaper.

Congrats on finding a Disney loving man!

Thanks everyone again!!! I've thought about renting points too, but I don't understand that process at all. From what I've gathered, I would need to have all of the money once the confirmation number has been given to me. I just don't know if I could swing something like that..at least not all at once!! LOL I've priced some resorts and including dining and base tickets and I'm around $2200-$2900 for it, which is doable for us.

Also, someone mentioned about the Poly and being able to sit out on the beach and watch the fireworks. Are you only allowed to do this if you're a guest at that resort or can you be a guest at any resort on property and stay there to watch??

Also, (I know I'm asking for a lot:lmao:), if someone here could explain the renting of the points thing to me, I'd greatly appreciate it!! I have read some of the posts and stickys and even that timeshare store, but I'm just not getting it...:confused3

Thanks again everyone for the awesome advice!!!

Anybody can sit on the beach and watch the fireworks, you don't need to be staying on property at all. It's really a nice thing to do (only be sure & take a light jacket, it can get windy out there!)

Sayhello

Hi Say!!! It's soo nice to hear from you again, although I can't remember your name.. I think it's Nancy?? But, thank you for letting me know that!! I wasn't for sure if they checked resort ids or not!!

Yes! I took my daughter in September 2006, stayed at All Star Music resort, 7day Magic Your Way, the DDP & airfare all for under $2000.00

Now things (prices/packages) have changed but I still say you can do it. Enjoy!

How long is the free dining for?? Or did you pay for the dining plan??

Yes! We did this with free dining and it was an awesome trip.

:) For renting from a DVC member, you would contact a member, possibly from the rent trade board here or go to David's DVC Rentals (A sponsor of that board). He is slightly more expensive but will guarantee the reservation so I think it would feel more secure. He brokers the deal. There are stickies at the top of the DVC forums about renting--safegaurds for picking someone, etc. It would be a loevely way for someone to have a fun first trip. You can find the point charts at the top of the DVC page. Pick a resort, your week and the number of points required for the reservation you want. Typically points rent for $10 each and I think David may be $13. So if you want a Standard Kidani studio May 4-11, it would be 95 points. So $950 and up. Not bad for a studio with kitchnette in a Deluxe resort at Disney. You will not be able to snag free dinning but could add the DDP if you wanted it. Once nice thing about the DVC resorts is if you want an early night, you can rent movies, see a movie by the pool, go to the community hall for activities, etc.
