Can a resort lose it's "magic" if you visit too often?

This past April we had our first stay at the Polynesian and LOVED it. I would like to stay there again next April but my DH thinks it will lose it's "magic" if we stay there 2 years in a row. We experienced this the second year we stayed at ASMO's. The first year we just loved it. The second year it was just OK. It just didn't seem as nice the second time around. Is my DH right? Can a resort lose it's "magic" if you visit too frequently?

I've stayed at the GF 4 times, the 5th will be in January, and it has not lost a speck of the magic. Every time I walk in there I am in awe.

I think for most people the answer is no, a resort can never lose it's magic.

However, for DH and I the answer is usually yes. Not because the resort loses any magic, but because it does lose it's "new and exciting" appeal to us.

Outside of Disney we rarely stay at the same place more than once. Simply because we like to explore the alternatives.

We've only had one trip to Disney and we stayed offsite and at the Polynesian. Now, I'll admit I didn't really like the Poly as much as I thought I would. However, even if I would of loved it, we wouldn't be going back this year. LOL, does that make sense?

So I guess I'm saying that it depends on you and your DH. If you are like us and prefer to explore something "new and different" then it may not have the same appeal.

Good luck :)

I usually like trying out a different hotel. Since you stayed in the POLY last trip why not try and EPCOT resort next trip? If you're on a budget either try Swan/Dolphin or AKL. Both are deluxe with good discounts.

The Polynesian has changed over the years but I think the magic actually increases when it is a place you visit often. Why?? Because even if there are less things being offered at the resort you always have that feel of the memories of past trips that makes it a magical place to return to. I have been to the Polynesian almost every year since 1996 and I remember every trip when I walk into the Great Ceremonial House. I think if you like a resort than you will never get tired of returning. We try a different resort each stay for the first few days but than we spend a week at the Polynesian (our home). I say if you want to go back than the past trips will make it that much better.

It's not that I don't want to go back to a resort I've already been to. Every trip so far has been great and I'm sure repeating resorts will still be a great experience. That said, I've enjoyed the excitement of trying different resorts and different theming. That seems to increase the magic for me. The only reason we're going back to WL for a few days this year is because of the CBR shutdown but had to add a new resort for this trip, BWI.

I'll keep trying new ones but I'm also hoping that one of these times, I'll find the resort I truly love and want to come 'home' to year after year.

Maybe this is the year and BWI will be it!

We have stayed at many resorts multiple times (ASMu 6x, ASSp 4x, CBR 3x, POR 3x, CSR 2x, Contemporary 2x) and none have ever lost their magic or appeal. We do enjoy trying different resorts. We have also stayed at the Swan, Polynesian, and POFQ once each. We are going to try the AKL and Dolphin in the next couple of months.

I have stayed at the Polynesian twice. The visits were about 3 years apart. I didn't think it lost its magic one bit, in fact because I had been there before I knew what there was to look forward to. Hope that makes sense! There is a certain feeling when you are there...I just love that resort. We are going to WDW in May but this time we are staying at a two bedroom at the BWV's because I have two children under the age of 3 and all of us cramped in one room...well you know..too tight! If the Poly had two bedroom villas you can bet I'd be there again. While I am looking forward to trying a new resort, I will miss the Poly...I guess I'll have to bring the gang over for a visit or two while we are there! Have fun!

I've stayed at the Grand Floridian on many trips, and have found it to be lacking magic in some areas. Our first stay was perfect, and ever since we find things that have improved and things that have lacked. It sorta helps to stay there more since we can overlook things that go wrong, as we know what it should be like.

:)

For the first time we visit Disney, never thought we would go back as often as we have, over 23 times in 10 years. Each time we go see something different that we hadn't seen before. each time we do something different. Each time has a different memory. Hope it will be the same for you:bounce: :p

Heck no!
I've stayed at WL 4 times....two of those trips were 9 months apart...I love the place.

BUT....we're trying out AKL this trip-can't wait.:)

"OF COURSE NOT...NEVER, EVER...BECAUSE~THE ***MAGIC***IS INSIDE OF YOU ~NOT THE RESORT, SILLY!" :p

I dont think so! every time I stay at a resort I love it more and more! you get to experience it's magic all over again! :)
it is fun to try new ones though!
Laura :)

I think Dixie Landings lost a little of its magic when it became Port Orleans Riverside.

But, I still stay there. :D

No Way.LOL:) Leaving in 15min for the short drive over.(DW is yelling at me now to get off the computer and get the car loaded.Have PS at Tony's at noon).Sometimes it is like we look for problems after so many trips but overall the magic has never left.Times change but us Disnutz remain.:)

I have a goal of ataying at every deluxe and Home Away from Home resort, and while I've almost done it (Swan, BWV, WLV and GF to go, and I'm heading to the Swan for New Year's!), but even as we do this, both DW and I have resorts we can't wait to get back to. For DW, it's the Poly, for me, it's the Contemporary. To both of us, it still makes us giddy with anticipation to even just read about our "homes." I cannot imagine burn out from these resorts.
