Can a potty trained two year old use pools on board?

Our then 5 year old (his 3rd cruise) liked the pool just for feeling like a big boy his last time out since he was old enough but at times he'd avoid and prefer Nemo's Reef as the pool can seem overcrowded at times and when full (especially with a number of boisterous older - at least older than he was - kids). When he just turned 3 while on his previous cruise, even though toilet trained we never thought of having him in the pool for it provides no more entertainment or break from the heat than the safer and most times quieter Nemo's Reef. And yes, the pool was closed repeatedly to be cleaned for reasons I like not to think about.

For some of the slides they check the kids height/age ( the kids ages are on their key cards) and the kids have to wear an arm band. If the problem of people using the pools when they are not suppose to Disney may start to do this for swimming. Once again please follow the rules. When the pools have to shut down it hurts everyone.

Please don't risk it if she is mostly trained but still has accidents as an accident will shut the pool down while they clean it. It has been speculated that the reason for adding the 3 year old minimum is because parents were taking their children into the pools before the child has complete control and the pools were having to shut down repeatedly during a cruise.

Agreed. Please keep your fellow cruisers in mind if you've got a little one who isn't completely there yet. The areas made available for little ones entertained my two year old cousin for hours! : D

The ages are definitely not on the cards. I'm looking at ours and see no ages listed.

The ages and photo of each cruiser is coded into the card so when they are scanned, that information is available. The only marking on the card to indicate age an M for Minor.

I knew my post would draw some criticism. There is no way I would let her in there if she wasn't completely trained. I understand what goes into cleaning a pool after an accident and would not want to be "that guy" on the ship.

Im in the same situation as you. My son is fully potty trained and has been for months and months. We have a pool that we swim in almost every day and he wears trunks. He has had zero accidents (*gasp*)! My son wont be three, but he is potty trained and I booked this cruise under the old rule that potty trained children can use the pool. Im livid at the introduction of this new rule. He will almost be three and I will let him use the pool unless told otherwise by a crew member. I wouldnt let my son get in the pool if there was any chance he could have an accident. I wouldnt let him in our pool with only trunks if he might defecate in it. Just sayin'. :snooty:

Interesting and arbitrary age. Neither of my guys were trained before 3, while we had friends with girls who were done at 2. I wouldn't have trusted my kids' bladders in water (where everyone gets the urge to pee) until I knew they had full control. You all know your own kids, but I'm surprised that Disney picked a number (age), rather than ability. Furthermore, often girls are ready earlier than boys.

I think the age of 3 being touted as being "potty trained" is fairly standard. Not just a DCL arbitrarily chosen age.

But the standard has been ability, not age, from the beginning. The problem is that people blatantly ignore it. Perhaps DCL feels they can better enforce an age limit.

While it is not UNcommon for kids to not be trained by 4, I suspect that the vast majority of both boys and girls get it while they are 2 or 3. That was certainly true of dd's class.

Having an age rule for pool-as-bathroom purposes is just silly. There are plenty of older kids who aren't fully trained yet, and many under-3s who are.

As for contaminated pools, if you're talking about pee, you need to think about what's under all our swimsuits when we're in the water. We're swimming in someone's bathtub the whole time. A bit of pee isn't to be worried about.

And at least at our YMCA, most of the times a pool is shut down it's the big pool (no babies or toddlers) and it's often because of an adult. It's NOT just kids who go #2 in pools.
