I think, we might take grandma on vacation with us next year. Wondering if we can give her card access to our room and her room? I know, she can probably use one of the kids cards but I thought it might be easier if she had it on her own card.

Thanks

I have asked this in the past when booking two staterooms for my family, and the answer was always no. They will not print up an "extra" card and we did switch cards at times so as to have access to the other room for various reasons. Just keep in mind when switching cards for a bit not to use them for purchasing, identification, etc. as they are encoded with the user's birthdate, charge privileges, etc. :)

We had two rooms and guest services made up an extra key for each room so my husband and I each had 2 cards. They were not valid for charging...just for opening doors. It worked just fine.

Cool, I'll make a note of that for our trip. Glad to hear they accomondated you.

We always have 2 cabins for our party of 5 and for booking purposes, my husband is in one with my boys and my daughter is in my cabin. We simply go to guest Services once on board DCL and ask for an extra room key for each room. They're not good for charging or ID, they are simply keys to the cabins. My husband then gets one for my cabin and my daughter gets one for her cabin. The only problem is they then have to carry 2 KTTW cards!

For security reasons they will not let a guest have the same card open two doors??
The Maid key opens all their doors??

Anyhow, with two rooms and five people and 4 extra cards, and lost cards and replaced cards and then we found the lost cards.
Plus our KTTW cards....

The first thing I do is disable the kids cards from charging.
and get them each an extra card to the opposite cabin.

It was really not that bad, sometimes they all looked alike. A couple times we headed off the ship with the wrong cards.Next time I'm going to bring a marker or sticker to make some symbol and identify the difference.

The kids fought over who lost the cards.

Oh yeah and I know one time I lost a card in the Hot tub.

Anyhow we got home and after unpacking found all 18 cards.

I had no problems ever telling our cards apart, because the spare keys had no writing on the front and our original KTTW

We had connecting cabins on our last 2 cruises and just kept the doors between the cabins open. Our room steward gave us pieces of wood to keep them open. Also, if you lock the door while it is in the open position, the lock will keep the door from shutting. When carrying 2 room keys, you run the risk of them demagnetizing each other and then neither will work. This happened when my friend's credit card demagnetized her room card. Thankfully, the door between the cabins wasn't locked, so she could get into her room from my room without waiting for our room steward or Guest Services.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, we don't have connecting cabins. We have a category 6 and MIL would have a category 11. So, the connecting door thing wouldn't work. I think, we just ask for an extra key card!
