Can a non-DVC'er call member services to confirm a reservation?

Hi gang! My wife and I just rented some points from a great DVC'er. I'm comfortable with the transaction but my wife isn't so much. She'd like for me to call and confirm the reservation. We are currently waiting on ROFR on our first DVC contract so we're not in the system yet. Is there any way I can call Member Services (BTW...what's the number?) and check on the ressie?

Thanks in advance!
Dave

Members services will no longer talk to non-members. Even when you become a member, they will not talk to you about the rented points.

The only thing you can do is have the person you rented from set up a conference call (if they can).

No, you can not call member services to check the reservation. Even if you are a member they will not confirm a reservation made under someone else's membership.

The owner you have rented from should supply you with the confirmation letter from DVC. The owner could set up a three way call (The owner, member services, and you) or you can call the resort directly a few days prior to your arrival...but the resort will have no information on the reservation until about 4 days prior to you scheduled check-in day.

Even so, the owner can cancel the reservation at any time prior to your arrival, confirmation or not. However, that would be a very rare occurrence. Both owners and renters assume some risk in a rental transaction, that is the nature of the beast, and the reason rental are generally much cheaper than cash ressies through Disney.

The confirmation letter (or a copy of it) is the best you can do until 3 or 4 days prior to arrival. At that time, you may call the resort directly to confirm that they have a reservation.

A conference call would do absolutely no good - the owner of the points retains full and complete control of the reservation until check in. Were he/she so inclined, the owner could cancel the resrvation at any time. Your confirmation letter or conference call would make no difference.

FWIW, I have been reading the boards since 1999, and have never heard of a renter arriving to find a DVC reservation was cancelled.

If you have done your homework (talked to the owner and/or checked references) and have the owner's contact information, you should be just fine.

Good luck on the ROFR - hope we can welcome you home soon!
