This seems to be a simple question with what I believe will be a complicated answer. My DSS who will be 10 will prefer to eat from the kids menu I'm sure. However, everywhere I read the kids menu is for kids 3-9. We are not on the dining plan.

Now I certainly understand for buffets and fixed price menus, he will have to eat (and pay) as an adult. I understand this; we aren't going to fib about his age. However, for other TS restaurants where you order from the menu, will he be able to order from the kids menu (and pay kid prices)? :confused3

As stupid as it sounds, I get the feeling we will have to pay the adult price for him to order from the kids menu.

thanks,

Anyone of any age can order from the child's menu and pay the prices on that menu. There is no additional charge for an "adult" to order from the kid's menu.

Really??? I've not gotten that impression from very many servers. If that is correct, my DDs would be thrilled. They may be 14 and 12, but they have very simple food tastes! They would rather eat chicken fingers and french fries!

My son is a Disney Adult too and this past August when he was 10 and also in Feb when he was 11, he was able to order off the kids menu. We were on DDP, and I was able to order off kids menu for him and pay OOP. I was never given a hard time about this. That is not to say that some restaurants will deny you.

Yes, anyone can get children's menu items - if it is an alacart menu, such as LTT (lunch) or Plaza Restaurant. But if it a set price or buffet, such as CP or Cindy's, an adut price is charged for any one older than 9.

I have ordered an adult appetizer and a kids meal at places at WDW - yes I am an adult and a Mom of teens.

I was wondering sort of this same question. We are paying for Dining Plan next trip and 10 year old will have to pick from adult choices. However, do you think if I said at Akershus (dinner)- "I understand his will count as an Adult TS credit, but can he get a larger portion of the child's chicken strips?" Do you think they will say OK? I don't see why not, myself. :confused3 Throw a couple extra chicken strips on there, a few more fries or grapes, whatever they serve with it, and he's fine. No, I didn't get my 'money out of it' but as long as he's happy with his meal, I'm happy. I can find stuff on all the other restaurants we're eating at that he'll like, but that one stumps me.

I would say yes, your DS could order the childrens item.
Our DD was over 10 - but wanted the child's plate breakfast at Cindy's, not the adults. They brought her the child's plate breakfast. Our teen DS had the adult plate brakfast and then also was able to get a child's side plate of french toast too. :thumbsup2

My girls are 10 and 12 and I've never had a problem with either of them ordering off the children's menu. Both are more into chicken strips, although the older is getting more adventurous. That said, we do pay OOP, and don't do the dining plan, nor do we do many buffets. Obviously, if we were at a buffet they would be considered adults - which is probably why we don't do that many buffets, LOL!

When we went last summer we were on the DDP and my niece was 9 when we booked but was 10 when we went. When booking, they asked my mom for the age of the child in her group and not even thinking she said 9.

She basically got to eat at the under 10 price. It didn't really matter because she has Celliac's disease and never ate what was on the kid's menu anyway.

I wouldn't try this with a kid that was actually 10 when you book though.

Not always true. It seems to depend on the servers. DD is really tall for her age and we were told several times when she was younger that she was "too old to get a kid's meal" They would then start offering her a simialr meal for a diffferent price but we would have dug our her KTTW card and passport by then and shown she was young enough. We had this happen at Whispering Canyon Cafe, Prime Time, and Marrakesh I am certain. I can't remember where else. Now she is older and we tend to have te DDP so all is well. Also, I have wanted to order a kid's meal a few times (I am picky) and sometimes it has been no probelm, sometimes I have paid a bit more and some times I have been out right refused (all 3 at the same location and it varies evrey time).

I did this at Akershus (again, I am picky) and they were very nice about it and said LOTS of peopel ask for that there as the food is very different;)
