So this year my kids will be 10 years old meaning they can no longer order off the kids menu.

There is no way they can eat an entire adult meal. In a sit down resturant can I order one meal, say a filet with sides, and have them split it?

We would not be on the dining plan.

We understand that everyone pays at a buffet.

Do they ever let kids who say 10-11 years old order off the kids menu. My kids like that food so much better. They are not really into to much adult food? I assume the answer is no but I thougth I would check.

We ate at 50's PTC in June and I shared the sampler with BOTH of my kids. My DD's are 9 and 6 and, like mom, they love dessert:thumbsup2. So, we ordered the sampler and shared it. Then, the girls shared the s'mores and DH and I split the brownie sundae. It was plenty of food and none went to waste.

I've also split a meal with my SiL and we were on the DxDDP. We ate at Kona and had the crab cake appetizer, teriyaki steak and the Kiluaea torte for dessert. SiL drinks water with her meals so I had a Diet Coke. We walked in starved and walked out stuffed....and only used one meal credit:cool2:.

If you aren't doing the DDP then there's no reason they cant share an adult meal or order off the kid's menu :) We've done both when paying OOP for food

Every one can order a kids menu so there is really no problem. Enjoy. :thumbsup2

Are you sure? My kids will be all 10 and older. I thought they had to order off the adult menus if they were over 10. If they could order off the kids I can book a few places that I know they will hate the adult food (DH and I will love it) but will like the kid food.

Your kids can order off any menu they want, whether your on the dining plan or not. The only rule is that kids between 3 and 9 must order from the kids menu when on the dining plan. There are no restriction for kids 10 or over.

If you're on the plan, Disney is more than happy to let you order from a kids menu, it's more profit for them since any child 10 or over pays like an adult anyway, and if it's free dining, they lose less money.

We weren't on the plan last year because my DS was 10 and it was a waste of money to pay adult dining for him. We payed OOP and DS ordered off the kids menu more than a couple of times. You can also have them share a meal, because the kids menus at alot of Disney eateries are pretty redundant (Chicken fingers, Mac & Cheese, etc...), DW and I did that with him a couple times.

I know at disneyland adults can order of the kids menu... I do it when I don't have much money. Never had a problem and I'm 32. I think wdw should be the same and they for sure won't fuss over 1 year. There adults when it comes to tickets however when it comes to food anyone can be a kid.

Yes 100% sure. :flower3:

We had the DXL plan and my niece could order what ever she liked.
She just had to pick the meat, vegetables and fries (ofcourse :lmao:)
They made a customized dinner just for her and she loved it. :thumbsup2

Of course we did realize that she would never got this "special princess" treatment like that if we had not payed the plan.
Not to mention the tip. We just tipped the most expensive items on the menu and the waiters loved us. :rotfl2:

Yes you can have them share. Some places will even split the meal into two portions for you in the kitchen. Also, ask at the restaurant but most will allow them to order off the kids menu.

There have been reports of La Hacienda and The Plaza not allowing older kids to order off the kids menu but that's it that I know of.

We were on the DDP, but ds10 preferred the kids menu. We just paid OOP for him...was never a problem. We also split meals and it wasn't an issue either.

We did have to use one adult credit for him at Ohana. Quite expensive for the 3 little chicken wings he ate! (we knew that before going...the price and his lack of eating! :) )

Do you have to show proof that your kid is 9 when ordering off the kids menu?

I know some places have denied adults or older teenagers, but would a waiter really grill a 10 year old?

Now, in NO WAY am I saying to lie, just have the kids order what they want, and I doubt anyone will question it. Especially since you are not on the dining plan, the waiter has no way of knowing except to begin an inquisition.

I was thinking of sharing many meals for all of our family when we go in 8/13. Me, DH (if he wants-he tends to be a bigger eater), and DDs 13,10 & 6.

The portions are huge (think about it a 16oz boneless steak is enough to feed at least 2 people and in reality 3-4. DD6 loves steak too :)) and the middle DD tends to be the pickiest eater I can easily see her ordering a kids meal and the youngest sharing with the rest of us. DD13 won't order off the kids menu-she's very into being "mature", but I know there is no way she'd finish the whole meal so-it is possible that I or DD6 will share with her, and DH as well during some of our meals.

That way we can order apps to share, a couple (3?) meals to share AND dessert and still be stuffed in the end AND we all get to taste multiple different things that will satisfy all of us AND have room for dessert and snacking in the parks. :mickeybar

After all its not like I'm going to take home a "doggy bag" on vacation either.

This, our family's eating style, is why a DP won't make sense for us.

We've never had an issue with our son ordering off of the kids' menu. He is terribly picky, but will eat off the kids menu. He's also rather tall so he always looks much older than he is too. We do avoid buffets where we know he won't eat much.

Yes, you can plate share.

MOST of the time, they can probably order off the kids menu. I've seen ADULTS do it, at times, and there have been many reports of successfully doing it with older kids. The rules are the menu is for those under 10...but most DISNEY servers will let pretty much anyone order off of it.

The operative word there, though, is "most". Not all (The Plaza, it's been reported, often refuses to allow it). And not as frequently at the non-Disney owned restaurants (Planet Hollywood, T-Rex, Rainforest Cafe, La Hacienda, etc).

My suggestion: Order off the kids menu, and if the server "objects"...fall back to plate sharing. The server won't mind giving you another couple minutes to "regroup"....

As for the dining plan you can pay out of pocket for the kids meal, use dining plan for your meals, and "save" the adult TS credit for later for your child or YOURSELF. It's a way to stretch out the dining credits. My child will most likely NEVER want an "adult" dinner on our next trip and I will pay out of pocket for her inexpensive kids meal and save her credit for me for a meal that will most likely cost more. Of course this works for us because we eat at more TS meals then we have credits for.
