Any word on if they allow 12 year olds to move up to Common Grounds? His cousin is 13 and
he would like to hang out with him in Common Grounds. Also, what is Common Grounds like
for teenagers, do they have activities like younger kids clubs or do the kids just kinda hang
out and do whatever suits them? Thanks Gary

Typically no, they will not let younger kids move up to Common Grounds. A 12-year-old would probably feel out of place with the older teens, as Common Grounds is for 13-18. The 13-year-old will be able to move into the 10-12 group in the Oceaneer Lab, though.

Check with the kids programming counselors once onboard to see what you will be allowed to do.

Enjoy! :)

On the Navigator's I've read, there seems to be some time for the 12 year olds in Common Grounds. Maybe it was morning time slots. Look at the navigators on dcltribute or disneycruiser.com. I think I read that my 12 y.o. would get to spend a little time there.

When i was on the ship a few months back there were some 12 year olds in there with us, but they had made arrangments before the boarded the sip. one kid tried to be allowed in the common grounds when he was 12 but was refused because he was not with in a month of turning 13.
As far as activities go, there are alot of things to do. there were dance parties every night, a take over of the pool once, making movies, a talent show...and so many other things. plus going to the common grounds is cool in itself. its kinda like a seperate room for the teens with a big screen tv, a playstation 2 and a drink bar with soda's and smoothies. Also the counselors up there are alot of fun. easy to talk to and they joke around alot! all and all it kept me busy from 11am(the time it opened) till 2am(the time it closed). it was a whole lot of fun.
btw are you going on the wonder or the magic?
if you have any questions feel free to ask.

there is 1 morning where the younger kids 'invade' the common grounds but its for a short time and i think the older kids 'invaded' the oceaneer's lab at the same time.

My guess is that a 12 year old would feel pretty out of place. We saw 13 year old's that just seemed to be "too young" to be in there with some of the older kids. My DS is 16 1/2, so he fit right in. It seemed to be more dominated by the 15-17 year olds than the younger kids when we cruised. The activities, music, games, etc. seemed to be more geared to the older teens too.

Just as an example of how a 12 yo would have a problem...one night they played moonlight basketball on the sports deck. Picture this...a lot of the 15, 16, & 17 year old boys are in the 5'10 and over group. The average 12 year old boy hasn't started that growth spurt yet. So he'd just be towered over, and not really able to participate.

It depends on the 'child'. Our friends daughter was permitted in to CG at 12 years old. BUT she was so mature - and would not have fit in witht he 'kids'. Her parents took her to CG on opening day and the couselors agreed that she would fit in better with them -- no problem.
:D

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like it depends on the kid rather than a hard and fast rule
and you need to check with the counselors in the club..Thanks again, Gary

My nephew who was twelve and three quarters at the time, was allowed into CG with his older sister. He is very mature physically and mentally for his age. Funny thing was that High School Senior girls were asking him to dance. Imagine how great that made him feel!!!!;)

Ok - parents of the teens will understand and those with infants NO FLAMES PLEASE! But my DS (15) has been reading over my shoulder the last couple of nights while dad has been out of town. His comment (and please remember this was the knee jerk response of a 15 year old male) when he was reading the kids in pools thread and about people considering not going with little ones was "gosh mom, think that means there will be more teen-age girls onboard?"

This right AFTER he told me about the soph/jr girls (he's a freshman who stands 6 foot, 175 lb and plays defensive tackle) who have done the head swivel as he passes them in the hall!

I am enjoying this age!
